Developed automated algorithms in Google Earth Engine to process over three decades of Landsat satellite imagery for geospatial analysis. Implemented multitemporal land cover change analysis in Iztaccíhuatl-Popocatépetl National Park using NDVI and satellite imagery. Analyzed historical Landsat time series to identify vegetation dynamics and changes in land use and land cover. Applied cloud-based geospatial processing techniques to automate satellite imagery analysis and support environmental research.
Protected Areas of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt
Jan 2023 – Dec 2024 · 1 yr 11 mos
Conducted multitemporal analysis of Landsat satellite imagery to examine land cover changes across protected natural areas. Evaluated vegetation dynamics using NDVI time series to identify spatial and temporal changes in land cover. Integrated raster and vector geospatial datasets to analyze spatial patterns and land cover change processes. Examined historical satellite imagery and vegetation indices to support environmental monitoring and geospatial research.
Caribbean Sargassum Detection Project
Jan 2022 – Dec 2023 · 1 yr 11 mos
Processed Copernicus satellite imagery using ArcGIS to analyze spatial patterns associated with sargassum presence in the Caribbean. Performed raster data analysis to identify geographic patterns related to sargassum distribution. Interpreted satellite imagery and geospatial datasets to support spatial analysis of sargassum presence.
Forest Cover and Land Use Change Project
Jan 2022 – Dec 2023 · 1 yr 11 mos
Edited forest cover vector datasets derived from Planet satellite imagery to support geospatial land cover analysis. Updated geographic information related to forest cover to support the assessment of land use changes between 2015 and 2022. Prepared cartographic datasets for spatial analysis of tree cover and land use changes. Organized geospatial mapping inputs to support the interpretation of satellite-derived forest cover information.
Forest ecosystems in mountainous regions are subject to continuous change driven by both natural processes and human activities. Monitoring these changes is essential to understand the current state of conservation and to support decision-making for protected areas. In the vicinity of the Iztaccíhuatl-Popocatépetl National Park (PNIP), forest cover dynamics are particularly relevant due to the ecological importance of the region and the presence of nearby human settlements such as Río Frío de Juárez. Despite the protected status of the PNIP, land cover changes occurring in adjacent areas may influence ecological processes within the park, including fragmentation, degradation, and recovery of forest ecosystems. Therefore, it is necessary to identify and visualize these changes in a spatially explicit manner.
