Project governance
Terms of Reference
These Terms of Reference define the purpose, operating scope, responsibilities, standards, and governance principles for GIS Career Hub as a geospatial jobs and career resource platform.
Last updated: July 3, 2026
1. Project Identity and Purpose
GIS Career Hub is a focused career platform for geospatial professionals, GIS beginners, employers, contributors, and organizations working with maps, spatial data, remote sensing, Web GIS, surveying, cartography, geospatial AI, and location intelligence.
The project exists to make geospatial career discovery more precise than generic job boards by combining curated GIS job listings, role-specific learning resources, career guidance, employer submission workflows, and practical knowledge for the geospatial community.
2. Objectives
The platform aims to publish relevant GIS and geospatial opportunities, improve access to practical career knowledge, help employers reach qualified spatial talent, and create a trusted public resource for people entering or advancing in geospatial work.
Project activity should prioritize accuracy, usefulness, transparency, accessibility, responsible data handling, and clear separation between published listings, pending submissions, editorial content, contributor material, and administrative review.
3. Scope of the Platform
GIS Career Hub may include job search, job detail pages, employer submission forms, admin review workflows, public content, guides, tutorials, freelance resources, analytics, account features, alerts, dashboards, and future AI-assisted career tools.
The platform may accept job information from employers, public sources, contributors, and internal editorial research. Submitted or collected information may be reviewed, edited, rejected, archived, or removed when needed to protect quality and user trust.
4. Intended Users
Primary users include GIS analysts, GIS developers, remote sensing specialists, surveyors, cartographers, spatial data engineers, students, early-career GIS professionals, freelancers, hiring teams, recruiters, educational organizations, and geospatial companies.
Different user groups may have different permissions and responsibilities, including public visitors, registered users, employers, contributors, moderators, administrators, and technical maintainers.
5. Governance and Decision Making
Project decisions should be guided by the platform mission, user benefit, operational sustainability, security, legal compliance, and the long-term credibility of the GIS Career Hub brand.
Administrative users may moderate submissions, update published content, manage job lifecycle states, respond to complaints, remove inaccurate material, and adjust platform policies as the service evolves.
6. Job Listing Standards
Job listings should be relevant to GIS, geospatial technology, mapping, remote sensing, surveying, spatial analytics, location intelligence, or closely related work. Generic technology roles should not be published unless the geospatial component is clear.
Listings should include accurate role titles, employer names, locations or location type, application methods, closing dates where available, experience expectations, employment type, summaries, descriptions, and relevant skills.
GIS Career Hub may decline, edit, de-duplicate, expire, archive, or remove listings that appear misleading, expired, duplicated, discriminatory, low quality, spammy, unrelated, unverifiable, or harmful to users.
7. Employer and Contributor Responsibilities
Employers and contributors are responsible for submitting accurate, lawful, current, and non-misleading information. They should only submit roles they are authorized to share and should provide working application links or contact details.
Submissions should not include confidential information, deceptive hiring claims, irrelevant promotional material, malware links, discriminatory requirements, or content that violates applicable employment or privacy laws.
8. Content and Editorial Standards
Articles, tutorials, guides, freelance resources, and career material should be practical, accurate, clear, and relevant to geospatial careers or professional development. Content should distinguish facts, opinions, estimates, and external references where appropriate.
GIS Career Hub may update, correct, remove, or reorganize content when information changes, quality issues are found, or user needs shift.
9. Data Handling and Privacy Principles
The project should collect only data that supports platform operation, user communication, job submission, analytics, security, account management, or future user-requested features.
Personal data should be handled with care, access should be limited to appropriate operational roles, and sensitive information should not be exposed in public pages, browser code, logs, analytics payloads, or unnecessary internal records.
Public job submission workflows must protect server-side credentials and must not expose private API keys to browser code.
10. Complaints, Corrections, and Removal Requests
Users may contact GIS Career Hub to report inaccurate job listings, expired roles, misleading employer information, content quality issues, accessibility problems, or other complaints.
The project team may investigate reports, contact submitters where appropriate, correct information, unpublish content, archive listings, or take no action when a report cannot be verified.
11. Accessibility and Inclusion
GIS Career Hub should aim to provide a usable experience across common devices, browsers, and assistive technologies. Navigation, forms, job content, and public resources should be written and structured for clarity.
The platform should support inclusive access to geospatial careers and avoid publishing or promoting requirements that appear discriminatory or unrelated to legitimate role needs.
12. Technical Operations
The platform may include a frontend application, backend API, database, administrative tools, content systems, analytics, email workflows, and deployment infrastructure.
Technical changes should preserve service reliability, protect credentials, keep public and private responsibilities separated, maintain review workflows for submitted jobs, and follow the project implementation standards used by the repository.
13. Limitations
GIS Career Hub does not guarantee employment outcomes, employer responses, application success, salary accuracy, permanent availability of a listing, or the completeness of external information.
Users should verify job details directly with employers before applying, sharing personal information, accepting offers, making payments, relocating, or relying on external claims.
14. Review and Updates
These Terms of Reference may be reviewed and updated as the platform grows, legal requirements change, new features are introduced, or operational policies become more specific.
Material operational changes should be reflected in public guidance, internal documentation, or implementation plans where relevant.
