About the Role
Role Description
As an Apprentice Surveying Technician – Specialization in Surveying at THE MALAMUTE – A PACK WITH VISION, you’ll experience the diverse tasks of modern surveying firsthand and actively contribute to real-world projects from day one.
You’ll support the planning, preparation, and execution of surveying activities both in the field and office—particularly conducting site and as-built surveys, stakeout of buildings and technical installations, and geospatial documentation of infrastructure.
Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll learn to operate modern surveying instruments and digital data capture systems. You’ll collect, document, and evaluate measurement data, and assist in producing plans, as-built documentation, digital maps, and 3D datasets. Depending on the project, techniques such as tachymetry, GNSS, 3D/LiDAR scanning, and drone-based surveying will be applied.
The apprenticeship is conducted full-time in a hybrid work model, primarily based at our offices in Zweibrücken and Leipzig, as well as directly on construction sites and project locations. Suitable tasks may also be performed remotely after coordination.
You’ll collaborate closely with experienced surveying engineers, technicians, and other specialists. As your training progresses, you’ll gradually assume responsibility for individual tasks and learn to independently plan, execute, evaluate, and document surveying assignments.
Qualifications and Requirements
You have a strong interest in surveying, geodesy, technology, and geometric problem-solving, and are comfortable working both outdoors on construction sites and at the computer.
You possess solid mathematical foundations, good spatial reasoning, and a meticulous, precise, and accuracy-oriented work ethic.
You are enthusiastic about STEM subjects (Mathematics, Informatics, Natural Sciences, and Engineering) and want to understand how technical systems function in practice.
Basic computer skills are required. You’ll learn to use CAD/GIS software, digital surveying instruments, GNSS, 3D/LiDAR systems, and drone technology during your training.
You are reliable, responsible, and willing to increasingly organize your work and learning independently and systematically.
You enjoy teamwork, communicate respectfully, and are open to interdisciplinary collaboration across technical and specialist domains.
There is no specific school-leaving certificate requirement. We place greater emphasis on strong math performance, technical understanding, willingness to learn, and genuine interest in the profession.
Prior practical experience—e.g., through an internship, summer job, or work in technical or craft trades—is advantageous but not mandatory.
Due to site and project assignments, it is desirable that you are at least 18 years old at the start of training or turn 18 during the first year.
A Class B driver’s license is preferred. If not held at the start of training, we expect your commitment to obtain it no later than the first half of the first training year.
What We Value in Applicants
We’re not looking for perfect grades—we want to know whether you’re curious about how things work, meticulous in your work, and ready to take on responsibility.
If you enjoy calculations, think spatially, want to understand—not just operate—technology, and are comfortable switching between fieldwork (e.g., using surveying equipment or drones on site) and office-based data processing and modeling, you have the ideal background for this apprenticeship.
