About the Role
The Asset Analyst supports the Asset Management Manager by analyzing asset condition, maintenance, reliability, operational, and geospatial data for Bahamas Grid Company’s transmission and distribution (T&D), substation, and related infrastructure. The role maintains and validates asset information, supports preventive maintenance planning, and develops analysis that informs asset lifecycle and reliability decisions.
Reporting to the Asset Management Manager, the Analyst works alongside the GIS Technician and coordinates with Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance to combine verified asset locations with equipment history, work orders, inspection results, outage records, and operational trends. The Analyst prepares recommendations and assigned system improvements for the Manager’s review; responsibility for asset strategy, policy, team supervision, and final prioritization remains with the Manager.
Essential Functions:
Analyze geospatial and asset datasets to investigate network performance, asset condition, reliability concerns, and operational problems.
Perform network analysis, spatial modeling, geoprocessing, and pattern detection for transmission, distribution, substation, and related utility assets.
Combine GIS records with inspections, work orders, equipment history, outage data, and other sources to identify critical assets and emerging risks.
Develop maps, analytical models, dashboards, reports, and visualizations that clearly explain findings and support decisions.
Create or improve GIS workflows, data models, and analytical solutions; test outputs, document methods, and resolve data or processing issues.
Support asset condition assessments, criticality analysis, lifecycle planning, preventive maintenance prioritization, and capital investment recommendations through documented analysis for the Asset Management Manager’s review.
Work with the GIS Technician to validate locations, connectivity, attributes, and field updates before using spatial data in analyses.
Present analytical findings, assumptions, and recommendations to the Asset Management Manager and relevant Engineering and Operations teams.
Maintain accurate analytical records, model documentation, data lineage, and confidential system information in accordance with Company requirements.
Maintain and reconcile assigned asset register and CMMS/EAM records for all T&D asset classes, including lines, poles, towers, conductors, cables, transformers, substations, switchgear, protection and control equipment, meters, and associated communications and operational equipment. Identify missing or inaccurate records and escalate gaps to the Manager.
Support the development and improvement of the asset tracking system by preparing data templates, validating unique identifiers and hierarchies, cleansing and migrating records, testing workflows, and documenting user requirements under the Manager’s direction.
Analyze preventive maintenance schedules, inspection findings, work order completion, overdue tasks, maintenance backlog, recurring defects, and failure history; flag exceptions and recommend priorities for the Manager’s review.
Retrieve and analyze CMMS/EAM data, including IBM Maximo where used, and operational trends from OSIsoft/AVEVA PI System where available, to identify asset deterioration and support condition-based maintenance recommendations.
Calculate, validate, and prepare reports on SAIDI (System Average Interruption Duration Index), SAIFI (System Average Interruption Frequency Index), CAIDI (Customer Average Interruption Duration Index), MAIFI (Momentary Average Interruption Frequency Index), and CEMI (Customers Experiencing Multiple Interruptions), using defined reporting periods and interruption thresholds.
Validate interruption duration, frequency, affected customer counts, and data completeness; document reporting assumptions, event classifications, exclusions, and CEMI thresholds, and investigate reliability trends for management review.
Other Requirements:
Support engineering studies, system expansion, grid modernization, storm preparedness, and restoration through timely geospatial analysis.
Investigate data anomalies and network patterns; recommend improvements to asset records, inspections, workflows, and GIS solutions.
Coordinate with Engineering, Field Operations, Maintenance, Planning, and external specialists to obtain and validate data.
Manage assigned analyses and project deadlines, communicate limitations, and escalate material risks or data gaps to the Asset Management Manager.
Physical Demands:
Ability to visit utility assets and field sites when needed to understand or verify asset and network data.
Ability to use standard field data collection equipment and required personal protective equipment.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions during field verification or emergency support.
Work Environment:
Primarily office based, with regular collaboration across Asset Management, Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, and Planning.
Occasional visits to substations, line routes, and construction sites; adherence to site safety rules and PPE requirements.
May require extended hours or emergency analytical support during outages, storms, or critical system events.
Daily use of GIS, spatial analysis tools, asset information systems, and large utility datasets.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geomatics, Geography, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
3–5 years of experience in GIS analysis, geospatial modeling, utility asset analysis, or a related field.
Proficiency with GIS software, spatial databases, geoprocessing, network analysis, and data visualization tools.
Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), enterprise asset management systems, maintenance workflows, and electric T&D or substation assets is required. Hands-on experience with IBM Maximo and OSIsoft PI System (now AVEVA PI System), or comparable platforms, is preferred.
Experience analyzing maintenance or work order data, preparing asset performance reports, and supporting preventive maintenance planning is preferred.
Working knowledge of SAIDI, SAIFI, CAIDI, MAIFI, and CEMI, with the ability to apply documented reporting methods and validate source data.
Skills/Attributes:
Strong understanding of spatial data, utility network connectivity, analytical methods, and asset data quality.
Ability to frame complex problems, detect patterns, test models, and explain findings and limitations clearly.
Skilled in asset and maintenance data analysis, CMMS/EAM records, reporting, GIS solution development, geoprocessing, spatial modeling, dashboards, and technical documentation.
Strong analytical thinking, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple analyses, validate outputs, and deliver accurate work within agreed timelines.
Attention to detail, sound judgment, and discretion with sensitive infrastructure and operational information.
