About the Role

JOB PURPOSE The Data Management Specialist oversees the integrity, lifecycle, governance, and effective use of SNOC’s upstream technical and geospatial data. The role manages physical sample inventories and digital E&P datasets across multiple software platforms, maintaining quality-controlled spatial frameworks, comprehensive metadata, and version control to support cross-functional technical teams, improve data accessibility, and advance upstream digital workflows. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain the corporate E&P data classification system, taxonomy, and master catalogue for physical and digital upstream datasets. Govern the full technical data lifecycle, including receipt, indexing, QC, archiving, and secure sharing of geological, geophysical, seismic, well, reservoir, production, and physical sample datasets. Validate and QC all GIS and spatial datasets to ensure strict alignment with WGS84 and company coordinate reference systems. Manage corporate well databases—including headers, deviations, formation data, and histories—ensuring clean integration with geoscience platforms. Coordinate with external vendors, partners, and data contractors on specialised archiving, digitisation, tape transcription, and delivery projects. Enforce data governance workflows, managing user access rights, secure data exchange tracking, and naming conventions. Advance digital transformation through data automation frameworks, improved system accessibility, and cross-departmental workflow integration. Provide day-to-day user support, software platform guidance, and technical database training to multidisciplinary technical teams. Qualifications / Experience: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, Data Management, Geomatics, GIS, or a related technical discipline. Equivalent professional experience in an upstream data management role will also be considered in the absence of a degree. Minimum 7+ years of experience in the upstream petroleum industry, with direct hands-on responsibility for upstream data management. Specific job skills: Practical experience across the full data lifecycle in an upstream environment: receipt, cataloguing, QC, storage, retrieval, and sharing of technical datasets. Practical experience in managing physical and digital E&P libraries, including off-site storage providers and tape transcription workflows. Strong understanding of upstream data governance, including metadata standards, data ownership, access control, version control, data lineage, and quality assurance. Familiarity with seismic data formats (2D/3D datasets, SEGY/SEGD handling) and with well log digitisation and G&G data vectorisation. Knowledge of partner data management protocols and joint-venture data-sharing practices common among national and international upstream operators. Applied knowledge of GIS tools, geodetic data workflows, coordinate reference systems, and spatial data quality control principles Show more Show less
