About the Role
Sitkum Consulting Ltd. is a medium-sized geotechnical consulting firm based in Nelson, BC with a satellite office in Nakusp, serving clients throughout BC in the forestry, mining, energy, and transportation sectors. Our work includes terrain stability assessments, landslide assessments, hydrology assessments, natural hazards risk analysis, aggregate exploration and development, as well as landscape-based terrain mapping.
Position Overview: We are currently seeking a permanent full-time Engineering/GIS Technician. The position is available to start on November 15, with some flexibility depending on the candidate’s suitability and experience. The position may be based in Nelson or Nakusp B.C., an area well renowned for world class recreational and cultural activities.
Initial training will occur in the Nelson office. Following successful training and demonstration of proficiency, a hybrid work arrangement may be considered.

Primary Duties:
GIS mapping and geometric design (55%): Resource road and gravel pit development mapping and geometric designs using a combination of CAD/MicroStation, ArcGIS, and Softree RoadEng software. Some software training is expected, but general proficiency with mapping and design software is required. Provide mapping support through the preparation of report figures, and basic spatial analysis using ESRI ArcGIS under the direction of the GIS Manager.
Report writing and editing (30%): Office support reviewing and editing technical reports, tables and figures. Requires excellent communications skills, both written and oral, with technical writing skills for editing using MS Office and Acrobat software.
Safety Representative (15%): Maintaining Sitkum’s registration in the OHS forestry safety program including annual audits, chairing monthly safety meetings, coordinating safety check-ins for field staff and ensuring Sitkum is meeting all requirements of the OHS program.
Fieldwork may be incorporated into the position based on the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications.
Requirements:
A diploma or degree in Forestry Technology, Engineering Technology, GIS, Geomatics, or a related discipline. Relevant work experience is an asset, though recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
Proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS, including experience working with LiDAR datasets and spatial analysis.
Experience in Softree RoadEng, MicroStation/AutoCAD, and/or AutoTURN is considered a strong asset.
Road engineering experience, including road layout, survey, design and/or road construction supervision, is preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing skills for reporting.
Strong organizational skills and a high degree of attention to detail.
Ability to work independently while effectively managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
A valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
Summary of Compensation and Benefits:
$62,000 to $75,000 annually, based on a regular 40-hour work week, with compensation commensurate with qualifications, experience, and knowledge.
