About the Role
Company: NGE - BTP
Role Overview
Participate in the construction and renovation of infrastructure serving territories. Join a rapidly growing group with €5 billion in revenue, operating across France and internationally. Become part of a team of nearly 27,000 professionals united by three core values: unity, transparency, and ambition. Embrace a rich, challenging experience alongside passionate colleagues.
Beyond conventional construction, NGE and MIRE focus on high-safety-critical infrastructure projects, including:
Nuclear: Monitoring sensitive structures with micrometric stability requirements.
Railway: Monitoring tracks, overhead catenaries, and bridges under live traffic.
Water Cycle & Civil Engineering (VRD): Surveillance of hydraulic structures and networks.
Internship Objective: MIRAGE Platform Development
The PFE (Projet de Fin d'Études) aims to develop the MIRAGE topographic monitoring platform to address these challenges. This project involves designing and experimentally validating the MIRAGE platform, which integrates:
Adaptive least-squares error computation
Reference network validation
Multi-sensor acquisition enhanced by artificial intelligence
You will report to the Head of the Southern Sector, in coordination with the Head of the Monitoring Pole, the Performance Manager, and a Ph.D. specialist in InSAR.
Methodological Axes of the Project
Modernization of the Hardware Acquisition Chain (IoT Enclosures)
Field Equipment Redesign: Study and design a modern alternative to traditional enclosures—toward a more frugal, autonomous, and resilient embedded IoT solution.
Transmission Reliability: Ensure local data buffering, resilience to network outages, and secure data transfer.
Topographic Computation & Error Theory (MIRAGE Engine)
Building on classical geometric compensation via least squares, the scientific contribution of this internship will focus on developing:
- Adaptive error computation methods
- Robust M-estimators
To automate two critical tasks:
- Rejection of optical reading defects
- Control and validation of reference networks
AI Agent Ecosystem, Monitoring & Client Alerts
AI Analysis & Reporting Agents: Develop decision-support agents for automated time-series analysis, cross-correlation of topographic data with other sensors (crack, vibration, weather, water pressure), and automatic generation of monitoring reports.
Intelligent Alert System: Implement an alert engine capable of distinguishing measurement noise from real movement, generating targeted notifications for NGE teams or directly for clients (e.g., SNCF, EDF, Water Agencies).
Cloud Architecture (Microsoft Azure Pathway)
Leverage Microsoft Azure as the preferred cloud ecosystem to support rapid development and scalable deployment of the platform.
SI & Cybersecurity Integration Challenge (NGE DSI)
A major software engineering challenge: integrate the tool within the strict governance framework of NGE’s IT Department (DSI). The solution must balance R&D innovation freedom with enterprise-grade cybersecurity, access control, and data governance requirements.
