About the Role
What You’ll Do
Discover what others overlook and safeguard the quality of geodetic and satellite data. The Netherlands faces its largest infrastructure maintenance challenge ever—roads, bridges, sluices, and other assets must remain safe and reliable. As a Geodesy and Remote Sensing Advisor at Rijkswaterstaat, you provide the data and insights needed to support this mission. Your analyses help colleagues make smart decisions about maintenance and management. If you want to work with innovative geospatial data and directly contribute to the future of the Netherlands, read on.
How You Contribute
As a Geodesy and Remote Sensing Advisor, you help Rijkswaterstaat manage infrastructure assets more intelligently and efficiently. You work with geodetic and satellite data that reveal the condition of infrastructure—such as aerial imagery, LiDAR for height measurements, and radar/satellite data (e.g., InSAR) to assess the stability of bridges, roads, and other structures.
You analyze this data and translate it into actionable products and advice for internal stakeholders and clients within Rijkswaterstaat. Quality is essential: your outputs form a critical basis for maintenance and management decisions.
You contribute to Rijkswaterstaat projects, collaborate closely with technical specialists and asset managers, and help improve and automate quality control processes to increase efficiency.
Your Responsibilities
Analyze geodetic and remote sensing data and convert them into advisory products.
Advise internal clients on suitable data acquisition techniques and data products.
Draft product specifications and tender documents for market parties.
Evaluate the quality of geodetic products and the processing methods used.
Standardize and automate quality controls where possible.
Monitor the quality of geodetic and satellite data.
Your Team
You work within the Data, Development and Advisory department of the Central Information Provision (CIV) unit at Rijkswaterstaat. This department manages and develops the geospatial data foundation for key societal themes, including geographic base data, safety, and traffic management.
You’ll join two teams of experienced technical advisors and geodetic specialists. Together, you’ll work on satellite data applications, management of the NAP network, and national projects such as the AHN (Active Height Netherlands) and aerial photography programs. Beyond delivering high-quality data, the teams play a vital role in innovation in data acquisition, analysis, and data science.

Where You’ll Work
About Rijkswaterstaat
Rijkswaterstaat is the executive agency of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, comprising 6 national and 7 regional units. For over 225 years, we’ve worked daily to ensure a safe, livable, and accessible Netherlands. We manage and develop national roads, waterways, and water systems—and invest in a sustainable living environment. Together with others, we protect the country from flooding, ensure sufficient green space and clean water, and enable safe, efficient mobility.
Working at Rijkswaterstaat means collaborating to build a safe, livable, and accessible Netherlands.
Talent as a Foundation, Diversity as a Strength
Rijkswaterstaat is an inclusive organization that values diversity and creates space for everyone. We believe differences make us stronger—and help us achieve better results for the Netherlands. Inclusion means everyone feels involved and valued—because of their differences, not despite them. We warmly invite you to apply if you identify with this vacancy.
Rijkswaterstaat – Central Information Provision (CIV)
CIV is responsible for all matters related to information provision (IV). In a world where big data unlocks new insights, CIV develops innovative solutions to better utilize infrastructure and support a smart, safe, and sustainable (water) road network. With over 1,200 employees across 4 directorates, CIV is active both internally and externally—and strives to be a sought-after partner in IV services.
Directorate of Data Acquisition and Analysis (IGA)
IGA is a knowledge center, orchestrator, and partner in data. Data offers unprecedented opportunities to safeguard and improve safety, flow, and livability in the Netherlands. Data-driven working is therefore our ambition—and the future of Rijkswaterstaat. We’re enthusiastic contributors to this vision.
We develop smart data solutions and ensure efficient (outsourced) data acquisition and availability—following defined processes and quality criteria. We create datasets, data integration, and map presentations for Rijkswaterstaat’s core processes, and deliver our data and information products via websites and integrated systems. We work closely with the Directorate of Information Provision for Networks and the Directorate of Development & Services.
With a rich history in data, robust service delivery, and over 300 highly skilled staff, we love data—and we don’t stand still. For years, we’ve operated a DataLab for data science and analytics, using techniques like machine learning and AI. We continuously invest in improving data quality and accessibility. For IGA, the shift toward a data-driven organization means a strong external focus: building new services and optimizing existing ones. In the coming years, this will be a key priority.
