This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys combining spatial analysis with systems improvement, automation and stakeholder engagement.
Initially offered as a six-month fixed-term engagement, there is potential for extension depending on ongoing business requirements. Applications from professionals interested in contracting arrangements are equally welcome.
The Opportunity
You will play an important role in supporting and improving an established GIS environment, working with technical and non-technical stakeholders to deliver reliable spatial information, applications and analytical solutions.
The position offers a combination of operational GIS delivery and technical improvement initiatives, with opportunities to streamline existing workflows, enhance system functionality and improve how spatial information is accessed and utilised across the organisation.
Key responsibilities will include:
Develop and deliver spatial analysis, mapping and visualisation outputs to support project planning, design, delivery and operational requirements.
Configure, maintain and enhance GIS applications, interactive mapping solutions and field-based data collection tools.
Identify opportunities to automate repetitive processes, improve reporting efficiency and reduce manual data handling.
Develop and maintain scripts and automated workflows using Python and other relevant GIS technologies.
Support the integration of spatial information with engineering design files, CAD datasets and other technical information systems.
Manage, validate and maintain spatial datasets, ensuring accuracy, consistency and accessibility.
Contribute to improvements in GIS standards, documentation, data governance and quality assurance.
Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to understand requirements, resolve technical challenges and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions.
Support the ongoing development of spatial capabilities, including opportunities for greater interoperability between GIS and digital engineering systems.
About You
We are seeking a technically capable, adaptable GIS professional who can work independently, manage competing priorities and communicate effectively with stakeholders across different disciplines.
To be successful, you will ideally bring:
At least three years of professional experience in GIS, spatial analysis or geospatial systems.
Strong practical experience with Esri technologies, particularly ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
Experience developing or administering web-based GIS applications, including tools such as Experience Builder and Field Maps.
Demonstrated Python scripting capability, ideally using ArcPy or the ArcGIS API for Python to automate spatial workflows.
Experience working with CAD datasets and integrating engineering information into GIS environments.
Sound understanding of spatial data management, cartographic principles, data validation and quality control.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into practical technical solutions.
Confidence working with multiple stakeholders and balancing ongoing operational requirements with technical improvement initiatives.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in geospatial science, GIS, surveying or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Additional experience that would be advantageous:
Exposure to infrastructure, engineering, utilities, resources or other project-intensive environments.
Experience with FME, ArcGIS Enterprise or comparable spatial data integration technologies.
Familiarity with 3D spatial datasets, LiDAR or digital engineering information.
Exposure to BIM-related technologies, including Revit, Civil 3D or IFC data.
Previous involvement in GIS system enhancements, process automation or digital transformation initiatives.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to take on a varied technical position where your work will have a tangible impact on how spatial information is managed and utilised.
You will benefit from:
A broad technical remit spanning spatial analysis, automation, systems integration and GIS application development.
