GIS Manager Remote · Tulsa, Denver, or Louisville preferred · Full-time · $90,000–$100,000 About the role We're looking for an experienced GIS Manager to join our team in a hands-on technical leadership role. You'll manage the day-to-day operations of our GIS team - overseeing task delivery, enforcing quality standards, contributing to our geospatial technology strategy, and occasionally joining client meetings to provide technical insight or represent leadership. This role is central to maintaining high-quality GIS output and driving the team's technical growth and efficiency. The ideal candidate is a technically proficient GIS professional who can lead a team, drive quality deliverables, and speak confidently with clients when business needs call for it. What you'll do Lead and develop the GIS team Manage, mentor, and direct the GIS team, including analysts, technicians, and developers Assign, prioritize, and track tasks across team members to ensure timely, quality delivery Conduct QA/QC reviews on GIS deliverables Establish and enforce standard operating procedures, best practices, and workflows Coordinate across GIS technicians and developers to keep everyone aligned on project goals Identify training needs and support the professional development of your team Manage workload distribution and resource allocation across active projects Shape technology and strategy Help define and drive the GIS technology roadmap and strategic direction Evaluate emerging GIS technologies, tools, and platforms for potential adoption Recommend and implement process improvements that increase efficiency and quality Collaborate with development staff on product enhancements and solution architecture Stay current with industry trends, Esri platform updates, and geospatial best practices Own delivery and quality Ensure all project deliverables meet quality standards and client expectations Monitor project timelines, budgets, and scope, and flag risks early Facilitate communication between clients and technical staff Oversee documentation of processes, deliverables, and project decisions Support clients (occasionally) Attend client meetings on behalf of leadership to provide technical insight or project updates Represent the GIS team in client-facing discussions when business needs arise Communicate project status, technical capabilities, and deliverable timelines clearly and professionally Support leadership in maintaining client relationships through responsive communication What you'll bring Required Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or a related field 5+ years of progressive experience in GIS / geospatial technology 2+ years managing or leading a technical team Strong proficiency with the Esri ArcGIS platform (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise) Experience with QA/QC processes for GIS data and deliverables Comfort with occasional client-facing interactions - meetings, presentations, status updates Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to juggle competing priorities Preferred Experience with GIS development workflows (Python, SQL, APIs) Familiarity with enterprise GIS solutions and data management PMP, GISP, or other relevant certifications Experience in the utility, energy, or infrastructure sectors Experience defining technology roadmaps or leading digital transformation initiatives Who thrives here Leadership You inspire, direct, and develop a technical team Client presence You're professional and confident representing the team in client settings Strategic thinking You see the big picture while managing the day-to-day details Adaptability You shift comfortably between technical management and business conversations Accountability You take ownership of your team's output and your clients' satisfaction Communication You're clear and confident in meetings, emails, and presentations Initiative You spot problems and opportunities without waiting to be asked Compensation and benefits $90,000–$100,000 annually, depending on experience, plus: Medical, dental, and vision coverage - we pay 65% of premiums 401(k) with company match up to 4% Short-term and long-term disability, covered 100% by us Monthly contribution toward your cell phone and home internet Most major holidays recognized Beyond the benefits The opportunity to shape our GIS technology direction and strategy Technical leadership career growth with real exposure to client interactions Direct collaboration with senior leadership Exposure to diverse projects and industries A collaborative, growing team environment How to apply Submit your resume along with a cover letter describing your experience managing GIS teams and delivering quality geospatial work.
