About the Role

Job Title: GIS Technician Location: St. Petersburg, FL – Hybrid (3 days/week in office, 2 days remote) Position Type: Contract 24+ Months Role Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented GIS Technician to join our spatial data team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating, editing, and manipulating spatial data from various sources to support utility network operations. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in GE Smallworld and the ESRI suite, along with a strong understanding of utility infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Edit, update, and maintain spatial and tabular data within GE Smallworld and ESRI software suites. Perform data conversions, GIS mapping, and spatial analysis using data integrated from external systems (CAD, field surveys, GPS data, aerial imagery). Ensure high levels of data integrity, topology rules, and system quality control across utility GIS databases. Collaborate with engineering, field operations, and IT teams to support GIS-related workflows and reporting. Assist in QA/QC procedures, network tracing, and attribute verification for utility assets. Qualifications & Requirements Required: Experience: Minimum of 2 years of professional GIS data editing and manipulation experience. Work Arrangement: Willingness and ability to work a hybrid schedule (3 days on-site). Preferred: Software: Experience with GE Smallworld software is strongly preferred; proficiency in ESRI products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcMap) preferred. Domain Experience: Prior background working within the utility sector (Electric, Gas, Water/Wastewater, or Telecommunications). Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline. Special Regulatory / Compliance Requirement Applicants who have previously worked for a government or regulatory oversight agency (e.g., PUC, FERC, EPA) with jurisdiction over our company or its affiliates must disclose the agency name, employment dates, responsibilities, and specific proceedings involved during application screening.
