About NES
Nanaimo Engineering Services Ltd. is a geoscience and engineering firm based in Nanaimo, BC, operating under a Permit to Practice with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC). We support sand and gravel pits, rock quarries and development projects across British Columbia, from early resource studies through permitting, monitoring and site rehabilitation.
Our current service lines include:
Quarries: design, permitting and Notice of Work (NoW) applications
Monitoring: dust and noise monitoring, blast vibration monitoring, and sampling
Geotechnical Engineering: rock face rehabilitation, geohazard analysis and pre-construction assessment
Hydrogeology
Geomatics: drone photogrammetry
The Opportunity
NES is building a roster of geoscience professionals to support our growing workload, especially Notice of Work applications under the BC Mines Act. This expression of interest is open to registered professionals, Engineers and Geoscientists in Training, and technicians.
We welcome applicants from geoscience-related fields, including:
Geotechnical engineering
Geology
Hydrogeology
Land use planning and reclamation
Geomatics, GIS and ArcGIS/QGIS specialists
Environmental monitoring and sampling
What You’ll Help With
Preparing and assembling Notice of Work applications and supporting technical reports
Mapping, GIS analysis and figure production
Field work, including site assessments, monitoring and sampling
Reclamation and closure planning
Technical writing and report review, matched to your experience level
Who We’re Looking For
Managers and Registered Professionals (P.Eng., P.Geo.)
We want to hear from experienced professionals who are ready to lead their own work. If you’re a registered professional with a clear idea of the services you want to offer, NES can be the platform to build them.
Building New Divisions
If you have the expertise and client knowledge to grow a service line, whether it extends our current work or adds something new, we want to talk. NES provides the Permit to Practice, the company structure and existing client relationships. You bring the technical leadership and drive to build a division around your specialty. Familiarity with BC permitting, mining or aggregate operations is an asset.
Junior Staff: EITs, GITs and Recent Graduates
We’re also looking for junior staff who want hands-on experience across a range of geoscience projects. Junior applicants need:
A degree or diploma in a relevant geoscience or engineering discipline
EIT or GIT registration with EGBC (or eligibility), or equivalent technician training
A minimum of 1 year of industry experience (co-op counts)
A job reference from a previous employer or supervisor
Strong written communication and attention to detail

Compensation
Compensation is hourly, with a set number of hours budgeted per deliverable. Hours are not guaranteed weekly and will depend on available jobs. No unbillable pay, meaning there is no stand by pay if there is no available contract.
Hourly rate starts at $30hr and goes up based on experience.
