About the Role
Job Brief
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical GIS Analyst to support the end-to-end delivery of land-based carbon vegetation projects through advanced geospatial tools and analysis.
This pivotal role ensures that carbon estimation, project designs, and environmental mapping comply rigorously with Australian regulatory standards. By interpreting remote sensing data, mapping Carbon Estimation Areas, and modelling carbon abatement, the successful remote professional will play an essential part in driving environmental sustainability and maximising project outcomes for regional initiatives.
Responsibilities
Cartographic Mapping
Create high-quality, precise maps for land-based carbon projects, focusing primarily on vegetation-based initiatives to support project planning and execution.
Project Design & Feasibility
Assist with feasibility studies, design spatial frameworks, delineate Carbon Estimation Areas (CEAs), and model prospective carbon abatement metrics.
Remote Sensing & Monitoring
Process and interpret remote sensing data to perform vegetation monitoring and generate accurate offset reports for submission to the Clean Energy Regulator.
Regulatory Compliance
Learn, apply, and strictly adhere to Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) Scheme methodology mapping rules across all carbon project workflows.
Regional & Site Support
Undertake occasional site visits and travel to rural locations as required to support on-the-ground environmental assessments and spatial verifications.
Requirements
Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in geospatial analysis, or an equivalent combination of tertiary education and industry practice.
High-level technical proficiency in ArcGIS software and spatial analysis tools.
Demonstrated experience in pre-processing, classifying, and analysing remotely sensed data.
Practical experience utilising a range of geospatial technologies to monitor natural land systems and capture data efficiently.
Strong organisational, time management, and spatial data management skills.
Intermediate to advanced capability in Microsoft Excel and the broader Microsoft Office suite.
Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proactive, solution-focused mindset.
High standard of work output with uncompromising attention to detail.
Prior exposure to Australian carbon project development under the Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF), or a solid understanding of the broader Australian carbon market and legislation, is desirable.
Familiarity with ERF vegetation-based methodologies, particularly planting-based methods, is highly regarded.
An agricultural background or practical familiarity with rural land management is an advantage.
Software Proficiency
