Description The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst supports campus planning, operations, research, and public engagement by building, maintaining, and analyzing geospatial datasets and creating high-quality maps, dashboards, and web apps.
Collects, cleans, and maintains geospatial datasets (parcels, buildings, utilities, land use, mobility, environmental layers) using ESRI ArcGIS Pro/Enterprise/Online and related tools.
Produces cartographically sound maps, web maps, and StoryMaps for planning studies, capital projects, emergency response, and campus wayfinding.
Builds and manages campus basemaps, feature services, and symbology libraries; ensures consistent standards across projects.
Performs spatial analyses (network, proximity, suitability, density, overlay, 3D scene/visibility) and summarizes results in clear tables, graphics, and dashboards.
Develops repeatable workflows for recurring analyses (e.g., space utilization, mobility and access, sustainability metrics, environmental risk).
Integrates CAD/BIM, survey, and remote-sensing (e.g., LiDAR, aerial imagery) into GIS; reconciles coordinate systems and dimensional accuracy.
Establishes metadata, versioning, QA/QC checks, and data governance aligned with university standards.
Documents processes and maintains a data catalog for campus stakeholders.
Configures ArcGIS dashboards, web apps, and features editing experiences for non-technical users.
Uses Python/ArcPy, ModelBuilder, and/or FME to automate ETL, data validation, and map production.
Supports geospatial components of regulatory reporting (e.g., environmental, ADA accessibility, safety zones) and data privacy requirements.
Maintains continuity plans for GIS services and contributes to emergency mapping when needed.
Performs other job-related as assigned.
Department is willing to accept education in lieu of experience.MQ: Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4-year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.
Preferred: Degree in Geography/Geospatial Science, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, GIS, Computer Science, or related field or associate's degree with 25 years of professional GIS experience (higher-education or public sector preferred).
Experience: Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
Preferred: Experience integrating CAD/BIM, survey, and remote sensing into campus GIS. 3D GIS (Scene Viewer, ArcGIS Urban), network analysis, and mobility/accessibility modeling. Familiarity with open-source tools (QGIS), cloud GIS, and versioned enterprise geodatabases. Prior work supporting campus planning, facilities management, sustainability programs, or emergency operations.
