GIS and Admin Support Supervisor
Job description We are currently seeking a knowledgeable and self-motivated individual to join our Planning & Public Protection Service as a GIS and Admin Support Supervisor. This is a permanent, full-time post within the Environment and Regeneration Directorate.
The role provides specialist GIS, systems administration and technical support across Planning & Public Protection, helping the Service maintain accurate, accessible and reliable spatial and operational information.
As GIS and Admin Support Supervisor, you will create, maintain, source, interpret and present spatial data; administer key systems used by the Service; act as the Authority’s Address Custodian and Ordnance Survey Liaison Officer; and provide technical and administrative support.
Your daily routine will include:
Maintaining the Local Land and Property Gazetteer and acting as a key contact for addressing matters.
Maintaining, administering and supporting the Council’s mapping datasets and advising on Ordnance Survey products, licensing and copyright.
Providing GIS support, analysis and training for Planning & Public Protection and, when required, other Council service areas.
Sourcing, processing, maintaining, interpreting and presenting geospatial data from external sources.
Administering, managing and reporting from IT systems used by the Service, and supporting continuous improvement in electronic information management.
Maintaining service web pages, supporting planning registers and weekly application lists, and providing technical and administrative support across the Service.
About you:
Do you have
Substantial practical knowledge and experience of building construction, preferably in a supervisory capacity.
Experience of systems administration for database applications, preferably UNIFORM, together with Microsoft Office skills.
Knowledge of BS7666 and experience of managing, interpreting and presenting information accurately.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, verbal and graphic presentation skills.
The ability to manage specific projects independently, work under pressure and meet established deadlines while contributing effectively to a small specialist team.
At least four GCSEs at grades A-C or equivalent, including English, Welsh or Mathematics, plus an HNC, HND, BTEC, degree or equivalent national standard in Geography, Computer Science or a similar technical subject, or two years’ equivalent experience in a similar role.
Knowledge of website and document management systems would be advantageous. You must also be able to travel extensively throughout the County Borough and be committed to continuous professional development.
We would welcome applicants with experience in roles involving GIS, land and property gazetteers, spatial data management, planning systems administration or technical support within a planning or public protection environment.
