What We Need
An employee in this class is responsible for the administration, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Town's Geographic Information System (GIS), including enterprise geospatial databases, data integrity, spatial analysis, cartographic production, and GIS application support. Responsibilities include managing and maintaining geospatial datasets; developing maps, data visualizations, and analytical reports; conducting research and spatial analyses to support planning, infrastructure, and operational decision-making; and ensuring the accuracy, accessibility, and reliability of GIS information. The employee provides technical GIS support and expertise to Town departments not limited to Planning, Engineering, Public Works, Stormwater, Parks and Recreation, Code Enforcement, Administration, assists the public with GIS-related requests, and responds to inquiries from external agencies, consultants, and other organizations as appropriate. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Planning Director and is evaluated based on technical proficiency, accuracy, quality of work, effectiveness in meeting departmental objectives, and feedback from Town officials, staff, and the public.
Required Education And Experience
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major coursework in Geography, Geospatial Science, Planning, Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field and at least 3 to 5 years of professional GIS experience, including data management, spatial analysis, and map production; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.\
Preferred
Experience working in local government or supporting municipal operations, including planning, engineering, public works, utilities, parks and recreation, or other public sector environments. Familiarity with SQLite data format. GISP certification, Esri technical certifications, or other relevant GIS credentials preferred.

The hiring range is $67,643 - $84,141 annually and starting salary will be dependent on qualifications and prior experience. Eligible for $2,500 sign-on bonus upon hire.
