Position
Our client, a renowned infrastructure and network operator, is seeking a GIS Data Migration Specialist (m/f/d) effective immediately.
Key Parameters
Contract Duration: 01.10.2026 – 31.12.2027
Work Location: 95% remote; occasional on-site work in Frankfurt am Main
Workload: Full-time (35–40 hours/week)
Compliance: Only candidates employed by a company subject to mandatory social insurance contributions will be considered.
Project Background
The project aims to replace the current GIS platform to enhance data processing and analysis through modern technologies and improved data quality. Seamless data migration is critical to ensure uninterrupted operations in the new system and to guarantee future data availability and integrity.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze existing geographic data structures in the legacy system, including object catalogs, attributes, and relationships
Develop a robust, repeatable migration setup using Python and SQL to automate the transfer of all GIS objects and metadata to the new GIS system
Execute data migration from the legacy system to the new GIS system (e.g., ArcGIS Pro), ensuring data integrity and completeness
Identify and analyze inconsistencies, missing, or erroneous data post-migration
Design and implement data quality improvement measures (e.g., data cleansing, corrections)
Generate reports on migration quality and progress
Document migration processes, scripts, and workflows
Coordinate with relevant departments to validate migration outcomes
Continuously optimize the migration process based on test results and feedback
Required Qualifications
Solid expertise in Python and SQL for developing migration scripts and database queries
Experience working with databases, including understanding of database structures and models
Practical experience with GIS systems, preferably ArcGIS Pro or comparable platforms
Proven experience in data migration and transformation, especially for geospatial data
Analytical and structured work approach, with a strong interest in digitalization and process optimization
