Company: Sjöfartsverket (Swedish Maritime Administration)
Position: GIS Object Specialist
Location: Norrköping, Sweden
Do you want to take a business-aligned role where you can contribute your GIS and systems expertise? Are you skilled in communication and motivated by digitalization and development? Then you could be our new GIS Object Specialist!
Business Area: Hydrography
The operational activities of the Swedish Maritime Administration are organized into six business areas. Within the Business Area Hydrography, we are now recruiting a GIS Object Specialist to support the development and maintenance of the area’s IT systems.
The main responsibilities within Hydrography include hydrographic surveying of Swedish waters and the updating and maintenance of hydrographic databases. Products and services are derived from these databases, primarily nautical charts—both digital and traditional paper charts—for maritime navigation.
The department is currently expanding, with many new hydrographic products and services under development for both civil and military purposes.
Working as a GIS Object Specialist at Sjöfartsverket
Organizational-wise, you will be part of the Systems Unit, a support unit within the Hydrography Business Area, consisting of 12 dedicated and knowledgeable colleagues. The Systems Unit primarily works with system maintenance, project management, and expert competence.
As a GIS Object Specialist, you will collaborate with other Object Specialists to ensure that the object’s various IT systems are secure, available, and relevant to operational activities. Work is guided by an annual object plan and led by the Object Manager.
A large part of your role will involve configuring and managing IT systems used in nautical chart production. Your daily work will be varied, involving multiple parallel tasks and exciting development projects. You will have the opportunity to work closely with end users, internal IT specialists, and external vendors.
Who are you?
We are looking for someone with at least a three-year university degree in Geomatics, GIS Engineering, Systems Science, or Computer Science, with a clear focus on geographic IT.
You have several years of professional experience working with geographic databases and possess solid knowledge of GIS tools such as ArcGIS, HPD, or FME.
Meritorious qualifications include experience in GIS development, system maintenance, or programming, as well as experience with hydrographic information, cartographic production, or automation of cartography.
We place great importance on your personal qualities. You are self-motivated, proactive, and take ownership of your tasks with responsibility, engagement, and structure. Providing service and communicating proactively comes naturally to you.
You easily collaborate with others and have an open, friendly approach. You are attentive, able to identify needs and translate them into improvement measures, which you present and align with users. You can manage multiple complex tasks in parallel and adapt easily to changing circumstances.
You are fluent in Swedish, both spoken and written, and have good command of English, as external communication is often conducted in English.
