Join our team at the Spill Action Centre (SAC) - Ontario's 24/7 hub for environmental incident reporting and response coordination - where you will play a critical role in supporting Ontario's environmental response. As a GIS Officer, you will deliver mapping, data, and information solutions that support ministry priorities.
About the job In this role, you will:
deliver GIS analysis, mapping, tools, applications and data solutions to support emergency operations and environmental response activities
automate workflows and create innovative geospatial products that improve efficiency and decision-making
provide technical support, troubleshooting, and training for GIS systems and other critical operational databases and systems
collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver client-focused solutions
lead or support technical projects, including system upgrades, data quality initiatives, and modernization efforts
What you bring to the team
Technical Knowledge and Skills
You can demonstrate
knowledge of GIS technologies, geospatial data management, spatial analysis, mapping, modelling, and database management principles
knowledge of programming languages and automation tools, such as Python, SQL, C++, .NET, or Java, and their application in developing and maintaining tools, applications, and workflows
knowledge of information technology infrastructure, including operating systems, networks, system security, hardware, software, and information management systems
skills in working with GIS applications, relational databases, data analysis, and automated solutions to support business and operational needs
Project Coordination and Organizational Competencies
You can demonstrate
knowledge of project management principles, methodologies, and best practices
organizational skills to manage competing priorities, coordinate multiple initiatives, and meet deadlines
the ability to contribute to project planning, implementation, and continuous improvement activities while maintaining high standards of quality and accountability
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
You can demonstrate
knowledge of analytical, mathematical, and statistical concepts used to interpret data and support decision-making
skills in assessing complex technical issues, identifying root causes, and developing practical solutions
the ability to evaluate business requirements and apply innovative approaches to meet evolving operational needs
Communication and Relationship Management Skills
You can demonstrate
strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships with clients, stakeholders, and technical partners
communication skills to explain technical concepts clearly and provide advice, support, and training to diverse audiences
customer service orientation with a focus on understanding client needs and delivering responsive solutions
