The Centre-Ouest-Aquitaine Territorial Directorate (DT) manages 535,000 hectares of public forests across four regions (Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Brittany, Pays de la Loire, Centre-Val de Loire) and the department of Allier—spanning diverse ecosystems from the Atlantic coast to mountainous areas, via the Landes plateau and oak woodlands.
Since 2023, the French Ministry of Agriculture has entrusted ONF with implementing the General Interest Mission for Forest Fire Defense (DFCI). This mission comprises two main components:
Summer patrols and operational support during fire seasons
Supporting state services in implementing mandatory vegetation clearance obligations (OLD)
As a member of the Forest Service, you will join the SIG–Geomatics team at the DT, supporting territorial agencies in their DFCI missions. This position is based in Bruges (33).
Job Description
Reporting to the Territorial SIG Manager, you will provide technical support to the DFCI Coordinator for the Southwest zone (12 departments of Nouvelle-Aquitaine) and to territorial agency DFCI correspondents.
Key Responsibilities:
DFCI Database Administration
- Design, populate, update, and distribute databases covering all DFCI themes: mandatory vegetation clearance (OLD), equipment, patrols, points of interest, fire incidents, etc.
DFCI Mapping and Studies
- Produce operational maps, thematic atlases, and spatial analyses to support decision-making.
Field Digital Tools Management
- Administer the fleet of DFCI tablets: update data and applications, deploy national-level tools, and support end users.
External Partner Coordination
- Facilitate data exchange with external partners to gather and share essential information for DFCI missions.
Field Missions and Expertise
- Participate in field inspections, control operations, and technical expertise.
Operational Support During Fires
- Reinforce operational mapping efforts during active fire events.
You will work closely with DFCI coordinators, departmental correspondents, OLD control technicians, the national DFCI network, and the territorial SIG network—sometimes in collaboration with the West Zone’s Geomatics Project Manager.
Profile Sought
Hold a BTS, Licence (Bachelor’s), or Bac+3/4 degree in geomatics.
Preferably have training or initial experience in environmental management or natural risk management.
Knowledge of civil security actors or experience in operational activities is a plus.
Proficiency in GIS tools (ESRI suite / ArcMap) for vector and raster data processing, as well as standard office software.
Skills in Python, FME, or database management are highly valued.
Autonomous, detail-oriented, and proactive, with strong written communication and teaching abilities to support field users and make technical information accessible.
Ability to quickly adapt to new procedures, especially those related to risk management.
Special Conditions
Regular travel throughout forests and the Southwest zone, including overnight stays and deployments within the DT.
Limited leave during summer months (fire season).
