About Council: Covering 11% of New Zealand's total land area, including the iconic Fiordland National Park and Stewart Island, Southland District Council manages one of the largest land area of any district council in the country. About the role: The GIS Technician provides spatial design and GIS support across Council, helping maintain accurate spatial information and deliver practical GIS solutions for our teams. Working alongside experienced colleagues and subject matter experts, you'll support the development and implementation of spatial solutions and contribute to the ongoing improvement of Council's GIS systems and processes. Key Responsibilities: Provide spatial design services using GIS and related applications. Support the development, testing, and implementation of spatial solutions. Assist with spatial data management, quality assurance, and conversion. Work with subject matter experts to understand requirements and develop practical solutions. Support the development and maintenance of spatial standards, templates, and processes. About you: You'll bring A relevant GIS qualification or equivalent practical experience. Some practical experience working with GIS, ideally in a workplace environment. Working knowledge of GIS applications such as ESRI and FME, with some experience using SQL and Microsoft tools. Good attention to detail and an ability to work accurately with spatial data. Good communication and interpersonal skills, with a willingness to learn and work collaboratively. What's in it for you?
