Job Introduction Salary: Up to £46,598.52 per annum (£35,754.47 basic salary, plus up to £6230.44 non-contractual/ non-pensionable SFIA Supplement and £4613.61 London Allowance) Contract Type: Permanent Location: Force Headquarters - London Type of Working Arrangement: Blended approach of home and office-working is available Hours: This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week) Closing Date: Sunday 10th August 2026 at 23:55pm About The Role British Transport Police (BTP) is seeking a GIS Technician to join our Force Headquarters team in London. The GIS Technician will be responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining spatial datasets and mapping applications to support policing operations, crime analysis, and strategic planning across the national railway network. Key Responsibilities: • Maintain spatial databases and geographic information systems to support operational policing. • Create high-quality maps, web mapping applications, and spatial dashboards for internal and external stakeholders. • Perform spatial analysis on crime data, incident locations, and railway infrastructure datasets. • Support the integration of GIS with operational police systems and databases. • Provide technical assistance, training, and support to GIS end-users across the force. Qualifications & Experience: • Qualification or equivalent experience in GIS, Geography, Cartography, or related field. • Proficiency in Desktop GIS software (ArcGIS Pro, QGIS) and web mapping platforms. • Experience in spatial data management, cartographic principles, and data quality assurance. • Knowledge of Python scripting or automated data processing is desirable.
