AiM Land & Environmental Services has an opportunity for a GIS Technician to join our team. This is a full-time, six-month contract position with AiM, working on assignment with our client at their downtown Calgary office. As our team continues to grow, we’re looking to hire detail-oriented people who are strong in problem-solving and informed decision making, and who value continuous learning and professional growth.
The GIS Technician supports the development, maintenance, and delivery of geographic information system (GIS) products and spatial data solutions. This role is responsible for managing spatial and non-spatial data, producing maps and drawings, supporting GIS applications, and collaborating with project teams to ensure accurate, high-quality GIS deliverables that support business and client objectives.

As a GIS Technician, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Create, update, maintain, and manage spatial and non-spatial datasets to support client projects and business operations.
Prepare, edit, and maintain GIS maps, drawings, layers, and other spatial products using GIS and CAD software.
Manage and integrate data from multiple sources while ensuring the accuracy, quality, and integrity of GIS information.
Perform data entry, validation, and ongoing maintenance of GIS databases and project systems.
Develop and maintain Python scripts, FME workflows, or other automation tools to improve GIS processes and operational efficiency.
Support the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of GIS standards, procedures, and documentation.
Collaborate with project teams and other GIS professionals to deliver consistent, accurate, and high-quality GIS services.
Participate in project meetings and provide GIS technical support throughout project planning and execution.
Demonstrate a strong commitment to personal and team safety by closely following company safety policies, standards, and procedures.
Assist with other responsibilities as needed to contribute to the overall success of the team.
We are looking for the following skills and qualifications:
Minimum 4+ years of experience in a GIS or related role.
Experience with ESRI ArcPro is a must
Experience with other GIS platforms, AutoCAD, and the ESRI software suite, including ArcGIS
Experience in pipeline routing is considered an asset
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Experience with Python, FME, or other GIS automation tools is considered an asset.
