General Statement of Duties
This entry-level position, under direct supervision, performs foundational GIS data maintenance, digitizing, mapping, records research, and field verification to support the accuracy and integrity of District spatial data.
Supervision Received
Works under the direct supervision of the GIS Manager and under the general direction of the Director of Technology.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Perform accurate data entry, editing, digitizing, and basic map production.
Follow established workflows, naming conventions, documentation standards, and quality controls.
Research source records and collect or verify asset information using GPS and mobile GIS equipment.
Identify incomplete or inconsistent information and escalate issues to appropriate staff.
Communicate verbally and in writing technical progress, procedures, task status, and findings to department staff and internal stakeholders.
Process and document routine change requests for District mapping products, ensuring updates are completed accurately, consistently, and in accordance with established GIS standards and quality-control procedures.
Support GIS projects, communicate status, attend required training, and perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of GIS principles, coordinate systems, geodatabases, topology, cartography, spatial analysis, and data-quality practices appropriate to the level.
Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro and working knowledge of ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, mobile GIS, and related applications.
Ability to interpret maps, plans, specifications, as-built drawings, legal descriptions, and technical documentation.
Ability to organize work, communicate effectively, follow safety requirements, and meet deadlines.
Qualifications/Experience
Zero to two years of GIS experience, including internships or academic projects.
Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and a Motor Vehicle Record acceptable to the District’s insurance company.
Working Conditions/Physical Activities
Monday through Friday, 40-hour workweek. Work hours may be adjusted for field work, maintenance windows, emergency response, or other District needs.
Work is performed in office settings, on construction sites, and at water and wastewater facilities where noise, dust, bacteria, chemicals, airborne materials, fumes, raw wastewater, traffic, and moving equipment may be present.
Work may take place outside in all weather conditions and around water, wastewater, chemicals, electricity, construction activity, and other hazards.
Requires a full range of body movements and light physical effort, including handling objects up to 20 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently.
Must be able to operate vehicles and equipment, interpret information, and communicate effectively with employees, contractors, and the public.
