About the Role
Aarhus University, Department of Biology - Ecoinformatics and Biodiversity (Ny Munkegade 114, 8000 Aarhus C, Denmark) seeks applications for a 2-year postdoc position in remote sensing of ecosystem resilience. Fixed-term full-time position, 1 March 2027 - 28 February 2029 (ID: 170646).
Job description: The postdoc will analyse satellite time series to understand ecosystem responses to environmental stressors and disturbances, including extreme events like droughts and floods. The goal is to develop satellite-based indicators of ecosystem resilience across land-use types, combining multiple remote sensing techniques across scales (Sentinel-2, Landsat, Sentinel-1) at the level of individual fields, forests or grasslands in a fragmented landscape. The position mainly contributes to the Center for Landscape Research in Sustainable Agricultural Futures (Land-CRAFT) and works directly with Prof. Fabian D. Schneider in collaboration with Prof. Signe Normand. Applicants are encouraged to submit a short 1-2 page project proposal.
Your profile: PhD in ecology, Earth system science, geography, biology or similar, with experience in geospatial and statistical analyses of remote sensing and ecological data; good programming skills (R, Python or similar); land cover and land use change; multispectral and ideally multi-scale remote sensing; biogeography, ecosystem or biodiversity science including remote sensing of vegetation stress. Fluent English required; a B driver's license is an advantage. Some field work away from Aarhus.
Salary and terms per the Danish collective agreement, basic salary steps 4-8.
Deadline: 3 November 2026, 23:59 CET. Apply via Aarhus University's recruitment system from the job advertisement. Contact: Fabian Daniel Schneider, [email protected], +45 2090 6289.
