Research Fellow in Geospatial Mapping and Analysis Southampton, Hampshire (Hybrid) Fixed Term (24 Months) | £36,024 - £44,263 per annum The School of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Southampton invites applications for a 2-year Research Fellow position in Geospatial Mapping and Analysis. This post is part of a UKRI-funded interdisciplinary research project investigating environmental exposure, spatial epidemiology, and land-use change. Role Purpose: The successful candidate will lead the spatial data modeling, satellite data integration, and GIS mapping components of the research project. You will work alongside physicists, environmental scientists, and public health researchers to construct high-resolution spatial models. Key Responsibilities: Spatial Modeling: Develop high-resolution spatial exposure models combining satellite remote sensing data, ground sensor networks, and census datasets. GIS Data Management: Build and maintain project spatial databases, metadata catalogs, and open-data repositories. Remote Sensing Analysis: Process multi-spectral satellite imagery to quantify land cover and environmental parameters over time. Publication & Dissemination: Write high-impact peer-reviewed journal papers and present research findings at international conferences. Collaboration: Assist project PIs in supervising PhD students and coordinating with external research partners. Requirements: PhD (or near completion) in GIS, Geospatial Analysis, Remote Sensing, Physical Geography, Spatial Data Science, or a related field. Demonstrated research expertise in spatial analysis, GIS modeling, and satellite data processing. Strong programming skills in R or Python for spatial statistics and raster/vector data handling. Track record of publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Excellent written and oral presentation skills.
