About the Role
Renewable Energy Project Design - 5 + Years Experience
Galetech
are market-leading specialists in the development of renewable energy projects in Ireland, Africa and across Europe. We plan, build, and operate wind, solar, and battery energy storage projects worldwide. With more than 25 years of experience, we manage the entire project lifecycle, from early feasibility and construction through to long-term operations and life-extension, always focused on safety, innovation, and sustainable growth.
About The Job
We are seeking an experienced Senior CAD Technician with strong GIS skills to lead the delivery of CAD and GIS mapping, design, and survey outputs supporting all stages of wind, solar, battery energy storage, and electrical transmission infrastructure projects.
This is a largely autonomous role.
You will often be the only CAD/GIS resource on a project, working with technical and planning colleagues across multiple locations. The ability to work independently, manage your own workload, resolve technical problems with minimal supervision, and consistently deliver to a high standard is essential. It is critical that you are able to demonstrate a track record of having done so.
What You Will Do
Design & Drawing Production (CAD)
Prepare project design drawings (site layout, architectural, engineering) for wind, solar, battery energy storage, and electrical transmission infrastructure projects.
Produce planning and permitting application drawings to the required validation standards.
Support tender submissions, including drawing production and document compilation.
Preparation site constraint maps
Preparation of contract maps
GIS, Mapping & Spatial Analysis
Prepare site constraints mapping and spatial analysis, including supporting report writing.
Collect, process, manage, and analyse spatial datasets from multiple sources (environmental, grid, infrastructure, and others).
Survey & Data
Undertake site surveys and process, quality-check, and analyse the resulting survey data.
Provide general CAD, GIS, and digital technical support to the wider Galetech team.
Who You Will Work With
You will work closely with our technical and planning teams and with colleagues across the engineering, project delivery, and consenting functions. As the primary CAD/GIS resource in Nairobi, you will report to the lead CAD Technician in Ireland, and be the central point for mapping, design drawings, and spatial data, keeping outputs, records, and technical documentation accurate and up to date. You will play a central role in the technical delivery of our projects, with real ownership and independence and the opportunity to help build a CAD/GIS capability beyond the existing strong, base while contributing to the transition to clean and sustainable energy.
Essential
What We Are Looking For
A minimum of 5 years' hands-on CAD experience, with an associated qualification in CAD, GIS, engineering, geospatial science, or a related discipline.
Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD/AutoCAD LT.
A demonstrable track record of working independently with minimal supervision and delivering technical outputs to deadline, ideally in a remote, or lead technician capacity.
Experience in GIS processing softwares (e.g. ARCGIS, Global Mapper, Terrasolid tc.)
Strong spatial data management, processing, and quality-control skills.
Good report-writing, communication, and organisational skills.
Ability to balance competing priorities and meet targets within a demanding, fluctuating workload.
Desirable
Experience in the renewable energy sector (wind, solar, BESS, or grid/transmission infrastructure).
Integrating Drone and other survey data into drawings
Experience producing drawings to regulatory/consenting/legal standards.
Experience in site surveying on site including collection of height and GPS data using a GNSS receiver and base station.
Familiarity with additional design, survey, or geospatial tools (e.g. QGIS, photogrammetry or point-cloud processing software).
Proficiency in AutoCAD 3D
Personal attributes
Self-motivated, proactive, and confident taking ownership of your work.
Strong technical judgement and a solution-focused, quality-driven approach.
Comfortable working autonomously while staying connected to a remote team.
Flexible and adaptable to evolving project needs.
What Success Looks Like
In the first three months, you are producing design and mapping outputs independently to the required standards, project drawing sets and spatial data are well-organised and current, and you have established reliable working links with the technical and planning teams across locations.
Over time, success means consistently high-quality, regulatory/consenting/legal standard drawings and mapping delivered to deadline with minimal supervision, well-managed spatial datasets that the wider team can rely on, and a CAD/GIS capability in Nairobi that grows in scope alongside Galetech's project pipeline.
Working Arrangements
This is a full-time, office-based role at our office in Orbit Place, Westlands, Nairobi.
Working hours are 09:00-17:00 EAT, Monday to Friday, giving strong daily overlap with the Irish and UK morning and early afternoon.
All equipment and software are provided.
Given the commercially sensitive information involved, the role is subject to confidentiality, intellectual-property and data-protection obligations.
What We Offer
A competitive salary, paid in Kenyan shillings and commensurate with experience.
Statutory benefits, with the opportunity for private medical cover.
A modern office in Westlands, one of Nairobi's prime commercial districts, as part of a supportive, international team.
Broad exposure across the Group and real scope for professional development and progression as company grows.
Galetech Group is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates.
