Title: Senior Full-Stack Developer – Web GIS / Geospatial
We are looking for a Senior Full-Stack Developer with strong experience in web application development and Web GIS / geospatial programming for one of our clients. You will join an international project developing a global settlement mapping system, supporting exposure assessment components within a European crisis management system.
Key focus areas include: application performance, security, digital accessibility, scalability, global user support (including low-bandwidth environments), code quality and readability, and geospatial data transformation and visualization.
You will work in an international, multicultural, and multilingual environment.
Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain full-stack functionality—from front-end architecture and user interaction to backend logic, APIs, and database integration.
Monitor, test, and optimize Web GIS application architecture with emphasis on rendering performance, network efficiency, accessibility, and scalability.
Design and develop new architectural components and enhance existing solutions to improve UX.
Design data transformation workflows and automate scientific/geospatial data conversion scripts (e.g., XLS and TIFF → JSON, GeoJSON, Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF).
Implement robust web application security best practices, including data validation/sanitization, XSS protection, and vulnerability analysis/remediation aligned with OWASP Top 10.
Develop responsive applications compatible across browsers and devices, and integrate with REST APIs.
Build server-side proxy services/endpoints.
Create graphical assets, interactive data visualizations, infographics, and data-driven publication templates aligned with visual identity guidelines.
Conduct testing, debugging, root-cause analysis, and prepare technical documentation.
Requirements:
Higher education and:
- Minimum 10 years of relevant IT experience (with a Master’s degree),
- Minimum 12 years (with a Bachelor’s/Engineer’s degree),
- Minimum 17 years (with secondary education).
Minimum 15 years of experience in web application development covering front-end, back-end, and web mastering.
Minimum 10 years of experience in geospatial web programming.
Minimum 10 years of experience in UI/UX design.
Minimum 5 years of experience with code and data management tools (e.g., Git), and familiarity with legacy systems using SVN.
Strong proficiency in:
- JavaScript, HTML, CSS, jQuery,
- Kendo UI Professional for jQuery,
- OpenLayers,
- Legacy JavaScript (ES3/ES5) and modern ES6+,
- Webpack / Vite.
Experience with backend technologies: Java (Spring Boot, Hibernate), Node.js, or PHP, including:
- REST API development,
- PHP for lightweight server-side functionality,
- Node.js for offline scripts, automation, and data transformation,
- SQLite and SQL-based data access.
Certification or professional training in:
- IT Security / Web Application Security,
- Digital Accessibility,
- UX Research.
IBM Data Science Professional Certificate or equivalent.
IBM AI Engineering Professional Certificate or equivalent covering AI/ML methods for scientific/geospatial data products.
English (min. B2+) and Italian (min. B2+) proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with large scientific/geospatial datasets.
Experience designing Web GIS application architectures.
Practical knowledge of web accessibility and security standards.
Experience developing applications for users with limited network connectivity.
