About the Role
The mission
Grow SkyWatch’s data products beyond 2D imagery into 3D, elevation, vessel tracking, and location-based vector data, and get them into the hands of customers who need them. These products will become a large portion of SkyWatch’s data sales; this is the first dedicated hire for them.
The role
Take over current 3D work and lead what follows, then extend the same approach to elevation, AIS, and vector data. Work alongside the image processing team; products reach commercial GIS users, cities, and defence customers. SkyWatch is an integrator — third-party capabilities are the first choice for producing data products.
Key responsibilities
Take over and grow 3D products; run them reliably and lead what comes next
Wire products into discovery, purchasing, and publishing so customers can find, order, and receive them without help
Integrate third-party processing and data providers upstream, and GIS platforms and marketplaces downstream
Add elevation, vessel tracking (AIS), and location-based vector data to the product line
Build geospatial applications that put these products to work (e.g. city 3D digital twin with traffic, weather, and vessel tracks)
Package terrain for platforms that operate without network or satellite positioning (defence and industry standards)
Own quality: accuracy, datums, and QC, checked automatically and documented
Support in-house image processing when needed
Build with AI agents for integration and pipeline code and automated checks
Who you are
An integrator who reaches for the best existing capability before building your own
Use-case minded for city planners, GIS analysts, and defence operators
Broad across 3D, imagery, vector, and platform work
An application builder who ships apps customers actually open
AI-native in how you work
Qualifications
6+ years as a software engineer, including 3+ years on geospatial data, platforms, or applications
Cloud-native geospatial in production: COG, GeoParquet, Zarr, STAC, GDAL and rasterio or similar, containers, object storage, batch/distributed compute
Built integrations with third-party data and processing services
Working understanding of 3D, elevation, and vector data, coordinate systems, and vertical datums
Built geospatial applications on 3D data (e.g. CesiumJS, ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript, or deck.gl)
Evidence of using AI tools to multiply engineering output
Public code or open-source contributions strongly preferred
Producing/publishing 3D and elevation products (stereo imagery, I3S, 3D Tiles) strongly preferred
OGC standards (3D Tiles, I3S, CityGML/CityJSON, GeoPackage, OGC API) preferred
Sensor fusion and defence geospatial standards (DTED, DGIWG) preferred
Based in Canada and willing to undergo Government of Canada security screening preferred
Compensation & work setup
Base salary CA$135,000–CA$165,000 plus stock options. Health benefits. Remote or hybrid work in Canada (Kitchener).
