Staff Engineer, Product Leadership
Base salary: $200K to $300K plus equity

Better public works software gives city teams more time to decide what to fix and less time stitching together records. Port Lavaca, Texas, has used the platform in capital improvement budgeting. This Staff Engineer role is for someone who wants to own the product decisions and production results behind moments like that, not only a technical subsystem.
We are hiring for a company building the operating layer for the infrastructure cities maintain. Roads are the starting point: imagery, vehicle data, GIS records, engineering documents, and local knowledge become a living map of assets and their condition. Public works teams can use that evidence to plan capital, explain priorities, and manage work. The longer ambition reaches sidewalks, drainage, signs, bridges, and other public assets.
The product has customers, revenue, and funding, while the engineering choices that define the next phase are still open. You would join a world-class engineering team that includes a founding software engineer formerly at Brex and a machine learning engineer formerly at X, Google's moonshot factory.
What you'll own
Take a problem from a customer conversation into a working, reliable release. You will shape the interface, services, and data behavior that take a road finding from evidence through review, planning, and action.
Ship full-stack workflows across React, TypeScript, Mapbox, and backend services.
Make ML-assisted findings explainable and correctable by users.
Own releases and follow through when real customers find edge cases.
Help establish architecture, code review, and engineering habits for a small team.
Problems you'll solve
A technically impressive pipeline can still fail the person deciding where to spend a limited budget. You will make complex inputs legible, preserve source context, and design the right human checkpoints.
Candidate fit
You are a strong Staff engineer with evidence of product ownership.
You enjoy customer conversations as much as implementation and debugging.
You make independent trade-offs under uncertainty and own the outcome.
You can work in San Francisco in person 4 days per week.
