The Office for Forests and Natural Hazards (AWN) is the cantonal center of expertise for forest management and natural hazard prevention. AWN staff work to meet societal needs related to forests while ensuring their sustainable use.
You help ensure the Bündner forest can:
Protect people, animals, and infrastructure
Provide habitats for diverse flora and fauna
Supply raw materials such as wood, water, and energy
Remain a recreational and leisure space for the public
We are looking for a Technical Specialist in Forestry (GIS) Data (70–100%), effective immediately or by agreement.
Your Responsibilities
As the GIS lead for the area Forest Condition and Development, you are responsible for updating, harmonizing, and further developing our geospatial data.
In collaboration with subject-matter experts, you calculate forestry indicators and organize their storage and accessibility.
You automate periodic calculations and modeling tasks.
Depending on your qualifications, you support the department in analyzing, interpreting, and applying digital data and indicators. You actively contribute to interdisciplinary GIS projects.
What We Expect
University or Fachhochschule (university of applied sciences) degree in GIS, Informatics, Data Science, Geography, Forestry, or a related field.
Applicants with relevant professional experience and further training in GIS/IT, as well as recent graduates, are very welcome.
High learning motivation and enthusiasm for methodically analyzing complex problems, developing pragmatic solutions, and quickly implementing innovations in practice.
Knowledge of ArcGIS Pro, R, and Python is advantageous.
Initiative, reliability, and a solution-oriented work approach.
Proficiency in multiple cantonal languages (German, Romansh, Italian) is an asset.
