Nature of Work
Disclaimer-this position will be considered classified-exempt and “at will.” The Transportation Geographic Information Systems Technician will work in either the Geographic Information Systems Services Unit, the Linear Referencing Systems Services Unit, or the Mapping Services Unit in the Information Technology Division. This position involves basic-level technical work in multi-tier Geographic Information System (GIS) operations and services for a state agency or department. Duties include digital data entry and maintenance, executing applications, and producing maps and related graphic output and reports. Complexity involves duties that are varied and involve different and often unrelated processes and methods. Analysis of subject matter is conducted, and decisions are made using the results of this analysis. Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications

TRAINING/EDUCATION
Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a major in geography, cartography, geology, natural or earth sciences, environmental sciences, landscape architecture, urban planning, land surveying, environmental engineering, computer science, or a related field with six (6) semester hours in computer science, computer mapping, or computer aided drafting and design (CADD) or GIS.
Experience
Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in computer mapping or GIS related activities, including digital map analysis, map display and digitizing procedure, and automated mapping or CADD drawing production.
Substitution: Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the above fields, with six (6) semester hours in computer science, computer mapping, or computer aided drafting and design (CADD) or GIS may be substituted for the required training and experience.
Additional Requirement
Travel may be required; therefore, a valid driver’s license is required

Deferred Compensation
State employees have a unique opportunity to build retirement savings and reduce today's taxes by participating in a Section 457 deferred compensation plan. A 457 plan is similar to the 401K plans offered by private companies.
Annual Increment Pay
The annual increment is $60 for each full year of qualifying service, and is paid in July of each year. This is available to employees with 3 or more years of service.
Holidays
Twelve (12) paid holidays in each year.
Vacation
15 to 24 days per year depending on length of service.
Paid Sick Leave
