Urban Planner with GIS
Roles &
Responsibilities
Urban Planning &
Development: Support the preparation, review, and implementation of master plans, land-use plans, and local area development strategies.
GIS Mapping &
Spatial Analysis: Conduct spatial analysis, thematic mapping, and geospatial data interpretation to support urban planning.
Urban Infrastructure Planning: Analyze urban infrastructure, including roads, transportation, water supply, sewerage, drainage, solid waste management, and public amenities.
Environmental &
Social Frameworks: Integrate environmental sustainability, climate resilience, social inclusion, and safeguard requirements into urban development projects.
Municipal Coordination: Coordinate with ULBs, municipal corporations, government departments, and other stakeholders.
GIS Database Management: Develop, maintain, and update geospatial databases, land-use maps, and infrastructure inventories.
Remote Sensing &
Land-Use Analysis: Use satellite imagery and remote sensing tools to assess land-use changes and urban growth.
Data Analysis &
Reporting: Prepare GIS maps, dashboards, spatial analysis reports, and planning recommendations.
Field Surveys &
Validation: Conduct or coordinate field surveys, ground-truthing, and geospatial data validation.
Project Monitoring: Monitor urban development projects using GIS-based indicators and prepare progress reports.
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with planners, engineers, environmental specialists, and social development experts.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure alignment with applicable urban planning regulations, land-use policies, and environmental guidelines.
Educational Qualifications &
Experience
Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Town Planning, Geography, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
Master's degree in Urban Planning, Remote Sensing &
GIS, or Geoinformatics is preferred.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in urban planning, GIS analytics, environmental and social frameworks, or urban development projects.
Experience working with ULBs, municipal corporations, government agencies, or urban development consultancies is preferred.
Required Skills
Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience.
Strong knowledge of urban planning principles and GIS applications.
Experience in spatial data analysis and map preparation.
Understanding of municipal governance and urban infrastructure.
Knowledge of environmental sustainability and social frameworks.
Ability to prepare technical reports and planning recommendations.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in ArcGIS and/or QGIS.
GIS mapping, spatial analysis, and geospatial database management.
Remote sensing and land-use/land-cover analysis.
Urban infrastructure planning and thematic mapping.
Data visualization, reporting, and dashboard preparation.
Knowledge of environmental and social safeguards.
