WebGIS & Spatial Data Management Assistant

I. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION Provide technical and operational support to WWF-Indonesia in the management, collection, processing, standardization, and updating of spatial data and databases to support the development and operationalization of the Socio-Ecological Spatial Intelligence Systems (SoESIS). This position also supports the development and refinement of the SoESIS WebGIS platform, including data integration, visualization, and web-based data presentation. Additionally, the role involves supporting the inventory and integration of data from various WWF-Indonesia directorates, programs, and landscape/seascape initiatives, ensuring data is structured, accurate, documented, standardized, and easily accessible—enabling optimal use for program planning, monitoring, spatial analysis, and data-driven decision-making. II. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES A. Project Planning Support planning of spatial data and database requirements for SoESIS development and implementation. Assist in data inventory, prioritization of data collection and management activities, and timeline development. Support coordination and data requirement gathering across WWF-Indonesia directorates, programs, and landscape/seascape teams. Support integration of data into the Ministry of Forestry’s SIGAP platform as project needs arise. B. Implementation Program Collect, inventory, and document spatial and non-spatial data in alignment with SoESIS requirements. Support implementation of methods for spatial data collection, processing, analysis, and presentation per SoESIS standards. Perform data cleaning, quality control, and standardization to ensure data quality and consistency. Prepare and integrate spatial data to meet SoESIS needs. Regularly update databases and spatial datasets. Support documentation, progress monitoring, and reporting of data management activities. Coordinate with external developers and internal teams for SoESIS development and implementation. Coordinate with the Ministry of Forestry for integration into the SIGAP platform as needed. C. Reporting Support preparation of periodic reports on spatial data management progress and SoESIS implementation. Prepare supporting data and information for internal and external reporting. Document progress, outcomes, and achievements of spatial data management and SoESIS development. Document challenges, needs, and follow-up actions arising during data management and SoESIS implementation. Support development of presentation materials and visual information on spatial data management progress and outcomes. III. AUTHORITY A. Internal Working Relationships Coordinate with the Forest & Wildlife Program Director and program implementation teams to ensure project progress and sustainability. Collaborate closely and regularly with program support teams (e.g., General Services, Grant & Finance, People & Culture, Legal, and others). B. External Working Relationships Coordinate and collaborate with relevant stakeholders—including local governments, village authorities, private sector, academics, civil society organizations, and local communities—as needed to achieve program goals and ensure sustainability. IV. REQUIREMENTS A. Knowledge & Experience Minimum Bachelor’s degree (S1) in Geography, Geomatics, Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related field. Knowledge and experience in GIS and spatial data management, including data collection, processing, cleaning, and quality control. Proficiency in ArcGIS/QGIS and foundational understanding of spatial databases, coordinate systems, geodatabases, and metadata. Familiarity with various spatial and tabular data formats: Shapefile (.shp), GeoTIFF (.tif/.tiff), KML/KMZ, CSV, PDF, GeoJSON, and GeoParquet. Experience in database management, data standardization, and documentation; experience in conservation, forestry, biodiversity, or landscape issues is an advantage. Ability to learn and understand WebGIS development concepts, including spatial data visualization, web mapping, GIS services/APIs, and integration of spatial data into web platforms. B. Technical/Specific Required Knowledge & Skills Proficiency in ArcGIS/QGIS for spatial data processing, analysis, and visualization. Understanding of spatial data management practices: cleaning, quality control, standardization, and metadata. Knowledge of foundational spatial database concepts and data integration, including coordinate systems, geodatabases, and data structure/attributes. Ability to systematically conduct data inventory, documentation, and reporting, and ensure data readiness for SoESIS integration. Experience in geospatial work and spatial dashboard development is an advantage. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to write clear, concise reports. Ability to work independently and in teams, including in remote field locations with minimal supervision. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Willingness to travel to project sites as required by the organization.
