Theoretical Phase
You will study at Hochschule Bochum in the Surveying degree program.
The standard duration is 7 semesters, concluding with a Bachelor’s examination.
Practical Phase
During lecture-free periods, you will complete practical training modules at the Office of Geoinformation, Surveying, and Cadastre of the City of Essen.
You will be deployed across various departments, both in office and field settings.
What You Will Learn:
Collection, processing, and documentation of geospatial data (GIS data)
Application of geospatial data in urban planning processes
Execution of positional and elevation surveys using state-of-the-art systems (e.g., GPS, drones, LiDAR/scanning)
Maintenance and updating of the land registry (official register of all parcels)
Production of city base maps (e.g., for zoning plans, road construction)
Participation in land readjustment procedures (reorganization of property boundaries)

Requirements
General or subject-specific university entrance qualification (Abitur or Fachhochschulreife)
Alternative access routes for professionally qualified applicants:
- Completion of advanced vocational training (e.g., master craftsman certificate, Fachschule graduation)
- Professionally related vocational training + at least 3 years of relevant work experience
- Completion of a qualifying entrance examination (for non-related vocational training + at least 3 years of work experience)
