We are seeking
a
CATV Survey Technician
who is responsible for performing walkouts across entire towns or subdivisions to create detailed field notes for new or existing (as-built) cable plants in accordance with customer specifications. In this role, you will obtain all project details and guidelines from customers, gather accurate field data, and determine the most effective solutions for each project. This position requires attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently while ensuring compliance with technical standards and project requirements.
Responsibilities
Perform commercial walkout surveys to provide new services to end users.
Conduct as-built or new build walkouts.
Gather footage using measuring wheels, laser rangefinder, or digital measuring devices.
Collect information from new or existing pedestals and/or power and phone poles.
Determine the best route, typically following power lines.
Record information onto a blank source or update an existing source using tablet, laptop, or paper maps.
Walk or drive from pole to pole or pedestal to pedestal to gather data, including footage between locations, pole/pedestal placement at correct geographic locations, and addresses and vacant lots fed by each location.
Documentation of addresses in correct geographic locations (residential, commercial, government, vacant lots, churches, schools, hospitals, hotels/motels, apartments/condos, cell towers, and other structures requiring telecom services).
Document any “Make Ready” issues required by power, phone, or other communication companies to allow new or upgraded telecom services.
Gather additional information as required by the customer for designing or upgrading CATV systems.
Ensure all tasks comply with customer, safety, and industry specifications.
Maintain clean and well-stocked vehicles.
Collaborate with coworkers, partners, technology teams, and customers to develop and implement effective solutions.
Perform other duties assigned by management.
Qualifications
2+ years of cable mapping experience.
Comprehensive knowledge of the fielding process with hands-on experience in CATV as-built and new build walkouts.
Knowledge of cable design and basic construction practices for cable systems.
Ability to read and interpret maps, drawings, and diagrams associated with CATV projects.
Ability to draw digitally using software programs such as OCALC, SpidaCalc, Katapult, ArcGIS, Bluebeam, and similar is preferred.
Experience with permitting in telecommunications, including right-of-way (ROW), pole, railroad, and government agency permitting is preferred.
Ability to accurately update as-built field prints with equipment and information obtained from field walkouts.
Strong analytical, observational, and communication skills.
Good computer skills with proficiency in MS Excel, Word, Outlook, and PDF editing, with the ability to learn new software and technologies.
Highly responsible and self-motivated.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to communicate professionally with customers.
Time requirement
This is a full-time, production-based position.
Must have a valid driver’s license acceptable driving record.
General information
Perform field walkout assignments daily over varying terrain and in all weather conditions.
Ability to work on a ladder.
Mechanically inclined and able to use hand tools and equipment to help complete an assigned project.
Maintain a professional working attitude with co-workers and customers.
