Job Title: Environmental & Spatial Planning Advisor / GIS Specialist
Do you want to contribute—through geospatial data—to a healthy, sustainable, and future-proof living environment? Do you enjoy integrating GIS with environmental and spatial planning issues and translating complex analyses into clear, practical insights? We’d love to get to know you.
Job Description
At Pouderoyen Tonnaer, part of the Aelmans Advisory Group, we work on diverse challenges related to the physical living environment.
As Environmental & Spatial Planning Advisor / GIS Specialist
You combine knowledge of environment and spatial development with geospatial information to support projects across urban and rural areas. You contribute to environmental impact assessments, policy-oriented research, and area development initiatives. Using GIS, geospatial data, and various models and calculation tools, you integrate information, analyze spatial patterns, and translate findings into concrete insights, constraints, and solution directions.
You communicate these insights clearly through maps, reports, and advice for clients including government agencies, real estate developers, and companies.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct spatial and environmental analyses using GIS and geospatial data;
Contribute to environmental and living environment research, environmental impact assessments, and policy-oriented studies;
Advise on environmental and spatial planning aspects of location and area development projects;
Develop new GIS applications and, where possible, automate analyses and workflows.
About the Role
In this position, you are more than just a GIS specialist—you use geospatial data as a tool to understand spatial and environmental challenges and help clients make well-founded decisions.
You work on projects that directly shape the layout and quality of our living environment—from housing development and urban regeneration to business expansion and transition tasks in rural areas. Your analyses make visible what is happening at a specific location, identify opportunities and constraints, and clarify what is needed for a future-proof living environment.
Requirements:
Completed HBO or WO degree (e.g., in Geoinformation, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, Living Environment Management, Spatial Planning, or a related field);
Experience with GIS (e.g., ArcGIS and/or QGIS);
Foundational knowledge of or demonstrable interest in environment, living environment, and spatial development;
Interest in combining and analyzing geographic and environmental data;
Strong written and verbal communication skills and proficiency in Dutch;
Proactive mindset, able to work both independently and in teams;
Willingness to collaborate across disciplines and translate research findings into understandable, practical insights;
Experience with SQL, databases, programming, modeling tools, or GIS process automation is a plus.
We welcome candidates at various experience levels. If you’ve recently graduated and aspire to grow into a specialist at the intersection of GIS, environment, and spatial planning, we offer you the opportunity to independently manage complex studies and contribute to the further development of the field within our organization.
We value professional expertise, initiative, and engagement—and give you the trust to take ownership of your responsibilities. In an environment where freedom, collaboration, and personal attention are central, you’ll have ample room to further develop yourself. This also includes a competitive package of employment conditions.
With a solid onboarding program, we ensure you quickly find your footing within our organization. Additionally, you’ll have access to the Aelmans Academy and ample opportunities for external training and courses.
