About the Role
The Company
Eager to contribute to an innovative project integrating LiDAR, geomatics, 3D modeling, and artificial intelligence for forest applications?
ECR Environnement is an independent engineering and consulting firm specializing in geotechnical and soil studies, geomatics and infrastructure monitoring, civil engineering & urban development (VRD), and environmental studies.
With over 500 employees across France, Spain, and the French overseas departments (Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana), we develop innovative technical solutions for our clients and the territories they serve.
Position Description
Based at our Lorient office, you will contribute to the development of a novel methodology for acquiring and processing LiDAR data to create forest digital twins and estimate timber volumes on forest plots.
Under the supervision of the department head, you will be involved in all stages of the project:
Reviewing existing LiDAR methods and tree detection approaches;
Defining and testing field acquisition protocols;
Detecting and characterizing individual trees from point cloud data;
Developing automated processing tools, primarily in Python;
Structuring results into databases or GIS layers;
Creating and utilizing 3D forest digital twins;
Estimating timber volumes and evaluating result accuracy.
This internship offers a unique opportunity to combine fieldwork, software development, geospatial data processing, and 3D modeling on a concrete and innovative project.
