Flood Modeller / Flood Engineer
TUFLOW | Urban Flooding & Hydrology | Career Development
Best engineering consultancy in Sydney
$153-144k Depending on experience
Build a career around solving the problems that increasingly shape how our cities are designed.
Flooding, stormwater and urban resilience have become some of the most important considerations affecting major developments across Sydney.
A highly respected Australian multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is looking for an experienced Flood Modeller / Flood Engineer to join an established team working across complex urban, building and infrastructure projects.
This is not simply a modelling role where you sit behind a computer producing another TUFLOW model.
The opportunity provides exposure across the broader flood engineering process – understanding the catchment, undertaking hydrological and hydraulic analysis, interpreting results, developing practical solutions and communicating those findings to clients and multidisciplinary project teams.
Your involvement will include:
Hydrological and hydraulic modelling
TUFLOW flood modelling and analysis
Preparation of flood mapping inputs
Flood impact and risk assessments
Spatial analysis and interpretation of modelling results
Stormwater and drainage assessments
Developing practical solutions to complex flooding issues
Preparation of technical reports and documentation
Contributing to fee proposals and project planning
Working within project programmes and budgets
Coordinating with civil and structural engineers and other disciplines
Liaising with clients, architects, builders and external consultants
Reviewing and checking work undertaken by junior engineers
Ideally, you will have at least three years' experience across flood modelling, hydraulic engineering or hydrological analysis within the Australian consulting environment.
TUFLOW experience is particularly important.
Exposure to a broader range of flood, hydrology and stormwater platforms will also be highly regarded, including:
QGIS
DRAINS
RAFTS
WBNM
RORB
URBS
MUSIC
What we're really looking for, however, is someone who understands what the modelling is telling them.
You should be able to analyse information, identify potential issues and use engineering judgement to develop solutions rather than simply producing model outputs.
As your experience develops, you will have the opportunity to take increasing responsibility for smaller projects and significant components of larger projects, including planning resources, managing deliverables and becoming more involved directly with clients.
You will be joining a consultancy with significant technical capability across multiple engineering disciplines, giving you exposure to projects where flooding interacts with buildings, civil infrastructure, planning and the wider urban environment.
For someone who has developed a solid grounding in flood modelling and now wants broader project exposure, stronger technical development and a pathway towards greater project responsibility, this could be an excellent next move.
A relevant engineering degree is required. Engineers Australia membership is expected, while progression towards CPEng would be well regarded depending on your level of experience.
