About the Role
Position Overview
The GIS Analyst will support the management, maintenance, and analysis of Geographic Information System (GIS) data related to electric utility infrastructure, including transmission lines, distribution networks, substations, poles, transformers, underground facilities, and other electrical assets. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and accessibility of spatial and asset data used to support engineering, operations, maintenance, planning, and capital improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience supporting electric utilities, hands-on expertise with GIS applications, strong analytical and data management skills, and an understanding of electric utility asset mapping, network connectivity, and infrastructure documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain, update, and validate GIS records for electric transmission and distribution assets, including poles, transformers, conductors, switches, substations, and underground infrastructure.
Create, edit, and manage spatial data, asset attributes, and network connectivity within enterprise GIS platforms.
Perform GIS data analysis, quality assurance, and quality control (QA/QC) to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with utility standards.
Review and incorporate engineering drawings, construction as-builts, field records, and asset updates into GIS databases.
Support electric utility asset management initiatives by maintaining accurate equipment locations, specifications, connectivity, and operational attributes.
Develop and maintain GIS maps, reports, dashboards, and data visualizations to support engineering, planning, operations, and maintenance teams.
Identify and resolve discrepancies between GIS records, engineering documentation, field data, and other enterprise systems.
Assist with GIS data conversions, migrations, system upgrades, and integration projects.
Collaborate with engineering, field operations, asset management, and IT teams to improve GIS data accuracy and operational efficiency.
Support integration and data alignment between GIS and other utility applications, including Asset Management Systems, Work Management Systems, OMS, ADMS, and SCADA.
Perform spatial analysis to support infrastructure planning, system reliability, asset inspections, and capital improvement projects.
Ensure GIS data management activities follow established utility standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
Previous professional experience supporting electric utilities, specifically working with electric transmission, distribution, substation, or related electrical infrastructure asset data.
Hands-on experience maintaining, editing, analyzing, or managing electric utility GIS data and asset records.
Experience working with GIS software, preferably Esri ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcMap, or ArcFM.
Working knowledge of electric utility infrastructure, including poles, transformers, conductors, switches, substations, and associated electrical equipment.
Understanding of GIS data structures, spatial databases, asset attributes, network connectivity, and data quality standards.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, construction documentation, utility maps, and field records.
Experience performing GIS data validation, troubleshooting, and quality control.
Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to collaborate with engineering, operations, field personnel, and cross-functional technical teams.
