About the Role
Alderson Loop is seeking Geospatial Data Scientists to join a growing team supporting a large enterprise organization within the energy and utilities industry. We have openings across mid-level and senior-level experience levels and are looking for hands-on professionals who combine strong GIS/geospatial expertise with data science, development, and automation skills.
These are not traditional Data Scientist or GIS System Administrator positions. The ideal candidates have deep experience working with spatial data and the Esri/ArcGIS ecosystem and can go beyond analyzing data to build tools, applications, automated workflows, and geospatial products that can be used across the organization.
Senior-level candidates should also be comfortable independently owning technical initiatives and helping lead the design and delivery of geospatial solutions.
What You’ll Be Doing
Analyze complex spatial datasets and develop scalable geospatial solutions that support enterprise business and operational needs.
Design and build GIS tools, applications, web maps, geoprocessing services, and automated spatial workflows using the Esri/ArcGIS platform.
Develop Python-based geospatial solutions using tools such as ArcPy and ArcGIS API for Python.
Work with ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, and Experience Builder to develop user-facing geospatial products.
Design and improve geodatabases, spatial data models, and spatial ETL processes.
Build automated QA/QC and data-integrity processes for spatial datasets.
Develop and integrate ArcGIS REST APIs and other APIs into applications and workflows.
Translate backend spatial analysis and data science work into practical tools and applications for GIS analysts and internal customers.
Support remote sensing, imagery analysis, and machine learning/GeoAI initiatives, including feature extraction from imagery.
Collaborate with GIS professionals, data scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver usable solutions.
Explore emerging capabilities involving Databricks, AI-assisted coding, machine learning, and GeoAI.
What We’re Looking For
Professional experience in GIS, Geospatial Analytics, Data Science, GIS Development, or a related technical discipline.
Strong hands-on experience with spatial/geospatial data and the Esri ArcGIS ecosystem.
Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, and/or ArcGIS Pro.
Strong Python development skills, ideally including ArcPy and/or ArcGIS API for Python.
Experience building geoprocessing tools, GIS applications, automated workflows, or other spatial data products.
Understanding of geodatabase design, spatial data architecture, and spatial ETL.
Experience developing or consuming APIs, preferably ArcGIS REST APIs.
Ability to work directly with data and build technical solutions rather than solely performing GIS administration or mapping.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
Nice to Have
Databricks experience.
JavaScript and web GIS development.
Esri Experience Builder experience.
Machine Learning, GeoAI, or AI-assisted development experience.
Remote sensing, imagery analysis, or automated feature extraction experience.
Experience developing dashboards, widgets, or custom geoprocessing tools.
Energy, utilities, infrastructure, or another asset-intensive industry background.
