Title: GIS Advisor
Are you passionate about GIS, digital mapping solutions, and societal development? Do you want to help build tools used by municipalities, professionals, and policymakers when making critical decisions?
Vestland County Municipality is looking for a GIS Advisor for a 2-year temporary position. You’ll become part of one of the strongest GIS and analytics environments in the public sector—where modern technology meets analysis, innovation, and societal development.
This is not a purely operational role. Here, you’ll help develop new solutions, explore emerging technologies, and turn data into actionable knowledge that supports better decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct geospatial analyses supporting regional planning and societal development
Collaborate with municipalities, government agencies, and other partners
Develop and maintain GIS infrastructure, mapping services, and geospatial data
Design and implement mapping solutions, dashboards, and digital visualizations
Contribute to strengthening the county municipality’s knowledge base
Provide expert GIS advice to various departments within the county municipality
Participate in development projects related to analysis, digitalization, and geospatial data
Qualifications
Master’s degree in GIS, geomatics, geography, computer science, or a related field
Experience with GIS software
Solid understanding of geospatial data and analytical methods
Strong collaboration skills and ability to communicate technical issues clearly
Personal qualities are highly valued
Preferred Experience (Not Mandatory)
Web-GIS and mapping services
FME (Feature Manipulation Engine)
Python or SQL programming
ArcGIS Enterprise / ArcGIS Pro
Data visualization and dashboard development
Experience in public administration or planning work
Lack of experience in specific areas can be compensated by strong motivation and a willingness to learn.
