About the Role
About the Position
At the Center for Nautical Charts and Marine Data, we work with large and complex volumes of hydrographic and marine geospatial data, forming the foundation for nautical charting and Denmark’s maritime infrastructure.
We are looking for a GIS and software developer who will help develop and structure our work with geospatial data and the systems supporting hydrographic production.
You will take a central role in organizing, processing, and making large datasets usable across our hydrographic system landscape. GIS—particularly the Esri platform—will be a natural focal point, and Python will be a key tool for data processing, automation, and development of efficient workflows.
The position sits at the intersection of GIS, geospatial data, and IT. Consequently, you will work technically and closely with hydrographers, data managers, system administrators, and other specialists to translate professional requirements into well-functioning solutions.
Your Primary Responsibilities
Work with GIS and geospatial data, with a particular focus on the Esri platform (e.g., ArcGIS Enterprise, Portal, and related GIS components)
Contribute to the development and further development of solutions for handling, analyzing, and presenting hydrographic and marine geospatial data
Structure and organize large datasets to ensure effective and consistent use across systems and workflows
Support the development of appropriate data structures, data models, and data flows within the hydrographic domain
Develop and maintain Python-based tools and scripts for data processing, quality assurance, and workflow automation
Contribute to integration between the GIS platform, databases, and other systems in the hydrographic system landscape—including the Teledyne CARIS software suite
Help identify opportunities to automate and streamline workflows around handling large datasets
Contribute to data quality and traceability through structured and robust processes
Collaborate with hydrographic specialists to translate professional needs and workflows into technical solutions
Support the ongoing development of our technical platform and our approach to working with geospatial data
Your Profile
We do not expect you to check every box below. The most important thing is a solid foundation in GIS and geospatial data, and a desire to work in depth with complex challenges.
Practical experience with GIS and geospatial data, preferably with the Esri platform
Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, Portal, ArcGIS Server, Teledyne CARIS, or similar GIS technologies
Experience working with large and complex datasets, where structure, quality, and efficient data processing are essential
Strong Python skills and experience using Python for data processing, automation, or tool development
Understanding of databases, data structures, and cross-system data relationships
Interest in developing robust, reusable solutions rather than isolated manual workflows
Ability to quickly grasp complex professional challenges and translate them into technical solutions
Good collaboration skills and a willingness to work closely with both domain specialists and IT colleagues
It is an advantage if you also have experience with, for example, geodatabases, REST or OGC services, data integration, or automated data flows.
Experience with hydrographic or marine geospatial data is an advantage but not required. The most important thing is a strong GIS and data professional profile and a willingness to immerse yourself in the hydrographic domain.
What Makes This Role Special
Hydrographic data is more than just geospatial data. We work with large volumes, complex relationships, and data that—through a series of processes—supports safe navigation and maritime infrastructure.
Therefore, we need someone who is interested not only in the technology, but also in how data is organized and put into practice. You will have the opportunity to help shape how we structure, automate, and use our hydrographic data going forward—and how the GIS platform supports this work.
Key Collaborations
Hydrographers and other domain specialists at the Center for Nautical Charts and Marine Data
Colleagues in the Unit for Hydrographic Systems
Process, system, and data owners
Who Are We?
The Danish Geodata Agency falls under the Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Supply and is responsible, among other things, for nautical charting and marine geospatial data.
You will join the Unit for Hydrographic Systems within the Center for Nautical Charts and Marine Data. We work with the systems, data flows, and technologies that support hydrographic production, and we collaborate closely with domain specialists, IT, and external vendors.
Here, you’ll be part of a professional environment where complex challenges are solved collectively, and where you have real influence over technologies, solutions, and working methods.
We are also an agency with many social activities and a culture where there is room to talk and laugh together. We have an open office environment and offer a canteen and fruit bar.
What We Offer
A job with clear societal significance, closely tied to the maritime and blue infrastructure
Opportunity to work in depth with GIS, geospatial data, Python, and modern data processing
Large and professionally challenging datasets where your competencies can make a concrete difference
Opportunity to influence the future structure and technical support of the hydrographic data domain
A strong interdisciplinary environment with close collaboration between IT and hydrographic specialists
Good opportunities for professional development and flexible working arrangements
Salary and Employment Terms
Salary and employment terms follow the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the relevant professional organization, with scope for negotiation of supplements.
The position is within the Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Supply and its associated institutions. The workplace is Lindholm Brygge 31, 9400 Nørresundby.
Working hours are 37 hours per week with flexible working arrangements.
The appointment begins with a 3-month probationary period, during which the employer may terminate the appointment with 14 days’ notice.
