About the Role
Your Role
As a GIS Developer, you will primarily develop GIS applications based on the needs of municipal operations. Your responsibilities include maintaining and further developing the municipality’s GIS environment and performing qualified work related to geospatial data.
You will develop and maintain GIS applications, web maps, and geospatial services, as well as work with geodatabases, data models, metadata, and integrations. You will use programming and scripting to automate and streamline the handling and processing of geographic information.
A key part of the role is understanding operational needs and translating them into usable and sustainable GIS solutions. This includes analyzing requirements, developing new features, troubleshooting, and further developing existing solutions, while contributing to the long-term maintenance and evolution of the municipality’s GIS environment.
You will also work with GIS and geospatial data from a broader specialist perspective—for example, in geospatial data management, geographic analysis, and quality assurance. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys combining development and technology with hands-on, operationally focused GIS work—and who thrives switching between data, technology, and operational issues.
Your Competence and Experience
We are looking for someone with a higher education degree (university or college) in GIS, geospatial information technology, systems science, computer science, geography, or another field we consider relevant. You should have substantial experience working with GIS and geospatial data, as well as a solid understanding of geographic information and geospatial data management.
You have experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS Enterprise (or equivalent), databases, and SQL. You have experience developing GIS applications, web maps, geospatial services, integrations, and automating GIS and geospatial workflows using FME or a similar product.
It is considered an advantage if you have experience with programming or scripting (e.g., Python). Experience from public sector operations and municipal planning processes is also meritorious.
To thrive and perform well in this role, you should be goal-oriented, structured, analytical, and solution-focused. You must be able to work independently and take responsibility for your tasks, while also being collaborative and able to communicate technical issues clearly. You should be fluent in Swedish, both in speech and writing.
For this position, you must provide a current extract from the Swedish Police Authority’s register before any employment can be finalized. Specifically, you need the extract titled ”Arbete till en ledande befattning inom kommun”. You are responsible for ordering the correct extract via polisen.se.
