GIS Engineering Intern

Job Brief Role Title: GIS Engineer Intern Experience: 1+ (Students & new grads welcome) Duration: 6 months, Full-time, In-office Skills • Data Sourcing • QGIS / ArcGIS / Mapbox • Python & basic SQL • Spatial data structures & coordinate systems • Data cleaning mindset Compensation: ?20,000 – ?30,000 / month (Best interns here have potential to be offered full-time roles) Location: Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad About The Role We are looking for a GIS Engineer Intern to help build and maintain the spatial data layers powering Landseek. At Landseek, maps are not visual artifacts — they are structured intelligence layers that power land discovery, title diligence, and valuation workflows. We need someone who approaches GIS from a data engineering and automation perspective, not just spatial visualisation. You will own real datasets and pipelines that ship to production. What You'll Do • Build the Spatial Layer: Structure and manage GIS datasets inside our databases so spatial data is optimised, queryable, and scalable as Landseek expands state by state. • Clean & Standardise: Take raw openly available GIS data and make it production-ready — standardising formats, projections, and attribute schemas so datasets stay consistent across states and sources. • Parse & Scrape: Understand how GIS portals and map repositories are structured online, reverse-engineer their schemas, and collect data programmatically. • Automate the Refresh: Build ingestion and monitoring pipelines so datasets stay fresh as state portals change — with the engineering team, not in a silo. • Spatial Analysis: Run spatial queries, build overlays and zoning layers, and support internal teams with custom spatial requests that feed investor-facing product. • Assess Usability: Evaluate datasets from a business and product lens — completeness, accuracy, missing attributes, structural gaps — and recommend what to fix first. Nice to Have • Actual Projects with showcasing GIS or any spatial data work • Python scripting for data transformation (GeoPandas, GDAL/OGR, Shapely) • Exposure to scraping frameworks and pipeline automation • A degree or coursework in Geomatics, GIS, Civil, Computer Science, or a related field Who Should Not Apply • If you need rigid specs and guardrails to do your best work. • If you have no experience with GIS • If you prefer working in isolation or want a narrow, specialized role. • If you are uncomfortable with the speed and pivots of a seed-stage startup. • If you are looking for a certificate-and-exit internship rather than real ownership.
