About the Role

Gemeente Nijmegen is hiring a GIS-specialist for Bureau Basis- en GEO-Informatie. The bureau supports the organization with GEO-data, keeps several statutory base registrations up to date, and provides the municipal map viewer Atlaz for many internal work processes. As GIS-specialist, you will help colleagues turn geographic data into usable insights. You will create map layers for the GEO-viewer, perform GIS analyses, and advise on collecting, processing, and publishing GEO-data so colleagues have the right information to make good choices for the city. You will work with users to understand their questions and translate them into practical GIS solutions, such as a new map, an analysis, or an innovative GIS application that makes their work easier. Together with colleagues, you will help keep the GEO-viewer current and reliable, coordinate regularly within the team, and work independently on improvements that make processes smarter, more efficient, or more innovative. The role also involves following developments such as AI, APIs, and 3D and identifying opportunities to use GEO-data more effectively. Requirements include a completed HBO degree in the GEO domain, for example Geodesy, Geo-informatics, or GEO Media & Design; affinity with data and careful data management; knowledge of GIS, spatial databases, GEO architecture, and generic ICT applications; basic knowledge of or interest in AI, APIs, and 3D; and experience with FME, GeoServer, ArcGIS, and/or QGIS as an advantage. The position is for preferably 36 hours per week, with applications also welcome from candidates seeking 32 hours per week. It offers a temporary contract with the prospect of a permanent contract and a hybrid way of working.
