About the Role
Company: Waterschap Vallei en Veluwe
GIS Specialist
Would you like to apply your expertise as a GIS specialist while contributing to a climate-resilient and water-safe Netherlands—for current and future generations? Dive into the world of Waterschap Vallei en Veluwe. With around 650 employees, we work daily on safe dikes, purified wastewater, and sufficient clean water in ditches, streams, and canals—serving 1.2 million residents across 37 municipalities. Our ambition: to be fully circular and climate-positive by 2050. Therefore, we’re constantly seeking fresh thinkers, passionate specialists, skilled technicians, and management professionals who are eager to help realize sustainable goals.
Water Changes Your World
Waterschap Vallei en Veluwe aims to become a data-driven organization. The use of up-to-date, reliable, and complete data for water management—and the implementation of the information cycle—plays a key role in this.
You will work closely with your GIS colleagues and various teams to deliver reliable geo-information that improves the efficiency and quality of projects. Your GIS expertise enables you to tackle complex challenges and develop standardized solutions for a wide range of projects.
Within the team, data is managed according to standard models—for instance, for the water system and flood defenses. These data are used both internally and externally. In this role, you’ll support projects and content management, such as creating project maps with geographic analyses or managing data collected during inspections via mobile apps.
Additionally, you’ll support your GIS colleagues in their tasks, helping you gain deeper insight into the various specializations and data flows. With your fresh perspective, you’ll identify improvement and innovation opportunities, contributing to your own development and that of the team.
You also play a key role in optimizing and innovating workflows through advanced information systems. Together with your GIS colleagues, you’re responsible for developing and managing geo-information portals, content management, visualizations, and tools for creating GIS environments.
Team
You’ll join the Data and Information Management team, consisting of 25 colleagues. Together, you’ll primarily focus on collecting, processing, and making accessible information about water systems, the water chain, and flood defenses.
What You Bring
You are a careful, structured, and proactive colleague who takes responsibility, thinks ahead, and actively contributes to organizational development. In a professional and constantly evolving environment, you help realize our ambition of data-driven work. You are able to design, manage, and optimize automated data flows.
You are solution-oriented with an open and curious mindset. You work independently but know when collaboration or seeking advice leads to better results. You are communicative, client-focused, and proactively contribute to process, service, and information improvements. You also enjoy contributing to the development of your profession and the team.
Additionally, you have:
A completed HBO (Bachelor’s) degree in geo-informatics, geography, land and water management, or a related field;
Experience with GIS and geodata platforms;
Knowledge of FME and Python;
Strong command of the Dutch language, both spoken and written (minimum C1 level);
Experience with ArcGIS Experience Builder is a plus.
What We Offer
At Waterschap Vallei en Veluwe, we’re happy to offer you an attractive package of employment conditions. You’ll receive a fixed-term contract for one year, with the intention of converting it to a permanent contract.
Additionally, you can expect:
A gross monthly salary of up to €5,199 (scale 9) for a 36-hour workweek;
An Individual Choice Budget (IKB) of 21% (including 8% holiday allowance), up to €1,092 gross per month. You can choose to receive this monthly or annually—or use it, for example, to buy extra holiday days;
