About the Role
Location: Apeldoorn | Hours: 32–36 hours per week
Do you want to apply your expertise as a GIS Specialist while helping build a climate-resilient and water-safe Netherlands—for today and future generations? Join Waterschap Vallei en Veluwe, where over 650 employees work daily to ensure safe dikes, purified wastewater, and sufficient clean water in ditches, streams, and canals for 1.2 million residents across 37 municipalities.
Our Ambition
By 2050, we aim to be fully circular and climate-positive. To achieve this, we’re constantly seeking fresh thinkers, passionate specialists, skilled technicians, and operational professionals who are eager to contribute to our sustainability goals.
Water Changes Your World
Waterschap Vallei en Veluwe aspires to become a data-driven organization. Accurate, reliable, and complete data for water management—and the implementation of the information cycle—plays a key role in this ambition.
You’ll work closely with your GIS colleagues and various teams to deliver trustworthy geo-information that improves project efficiency and quality. Your GIS expertise enables you to tackle complex challenges and develop standardized solutions across a wide range of projects.
Within the team, data is managed according to standard models for the water system and flood defenses. These data are used both internally and externally. You’ll support projects and content management—for example, by creating project maps with geographic analyses or managing data collected during inspections via mobile apps.
Additionally, you’ll support your GIS colleagues in their tasks, helping you gain deeper insight into various specializations and data flows. With your fresh perspective, you’ll identify opportunities for improvement and innovation, contributing to your own development and that of the team.
You also play a key role in optimizing and innovating workflows through advanced information systems. Together with your GIS colleagues, you’re responsible for developing and managing geo-information portals, content management, visualizations, and tools for creating GIS environments.
Team
You’ll join the Data and Information Management team, consisting of 25 colleagues. Together, you’ll focus primarily on collecting, processing, and making accessible information about water systems, the water chain, and flood defenses.
What You Bring
You are a careful, structured, and proactive colleague who takes responsibility, thinks ahead, and actively contributes to organizational development. In a professional and constantly evolving environment, you help realize our ambition of data-driven operations. You’re able to design, manage, and optimize automated data flows.
You’re solution-oriented with an open and curious mindset. You work independently but know when collaboration or seeking advice leads to better outcomes. You’re communicative, client-focused, and proactively contribute to process, service, and information improvements. You also enjoy contributing to the development of your profession and team.
Furthermore, you have:
A completed HBO (WO) degree in geo-informatics, geography, land and water management, or a related field;
Experience with GIS and geodata platforms;
Knowledge of FME and Python;
Strong command of Dutch (spoken and written), minimum C1 level;
Experience with ArcGIS Experience Builder is a plus.
What We Offer
At Waterschap Vallei en Veluwe, we’re happy to offer you an attractive package of employment conditions. You’ll initially receive a one-year contract with the intention of converting it to a permanent contract.
Additionally, you can expect:
A gross monthly salary of up to €5,199 (scale 9) for a 36-hour workweek;
An Individual Choice Budget (IKB) of 21% (including 8% holiday allowance), up to €1,091 gross per month. You can choose to receive this monthly or annually—or use it, for example, to buy extra holiday days;
