About the Role
About the Role
Do you get energized by turning geo-data into smart solutions that engineers and project teams can use right away? As a GIS Specialist in Infrastructure in Rotterdam, you analyze and visualize geographic information, develop practical GIS solutions, and advise colleagues on how to use geo-data more effectively in civil and infrastructure projects. One day you might build a map in ArcGIS Pro that gives a project team immediate insight into a work area; the next, you combine multiple datasets, investigate a spatial challenge, or improve a GIS application. You ensure geo-information doesn’t just sit in a system—but is actively used to make better technical decisions.
As a GIS Specialist in Rotterdam, you combine technical expertise, geo-data, and project work. You’re the person colleagues turn to when a spatial challenge needs to be solved smarter, clearer, or more efficiently.
Sometimes the answer lies in a solid analysis. Sometimes in an interactive map, dashboard, or new GIS application. And sometimes you discover that available datasets can be better integrated. You have ample room to come up with your own solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Translating technical and project-related questions into usable GIS solutions
Analyzing, combining, and visualizing geo-data for civil and infrastructure projects
Advising project teams on GIS and geo-information possibilities and practical applications
Developing and improving GIS maps, applications, viewers, and information products
Collecting, validating, and unlocking spatial datasets from various sources
Supporting colleagues in using GIS applications and geographic information
Contributing to automation and more efficient processing of geo-data
Identifying new GIS techniques and evaluating their potential application in projects
Coordinating with engineers, planners, designers, project managers, and other technical specialists
You’re not just the person who processes data—you understand the question behind the map. An engineer wants to know which objects fall within a specific work area. A project team has datasets that don’t align well. For execution, risks and interfaces need to be identified quickly. You investigate what’s needed and turn that insight into something the team can use immediately.
You find GIS interesting because of what you can solve with it. You can independently carry out analyses, but equally enjoy discussing with a project team what information they truly need. You ask questions, think technically, and don’t wait for someone to precisely prescribe which map or analysis to create.
Requirements
Completed HBO or WO degree in Geo-Information, GIS, Geodesy, Civil Engineering, Spatial Planning, or a comparable technical field
Experience with GIS and processing, analyzing, or visualizing geo-data
Experience with ArcGIS Pro or QGIS
Experience with FME or interest in further developing in this area
Ability to translate technical or spatial challenges into practical GIS solutions
Analytical and meticulous work approach
Ability to work independently while easily collaborating with technical colleagues
Proficiency in Dutch, both spoken and written
Bonus points if you have experience with ArcGIS Enterprise, FME Flow/Server, GeoWeb, Python, dashboards, web-GIS, KLIC-data, or other geo-applications—but you don’t need to master all of them.
What matters most is that you understand how geo-data works, can make connections, and get excited about designing effective GIS solutions.
