About the Role
You Join This Team
At HHSK, geographic information plays a vital role. The GEO team ensures reliable and current geospatial data—including maps, datasets, dashboards, and geo-applications—that are used daily for water management, flood safety, permitting, maintenance, and projects.
You will work alongside four GIS specialists, two surveyors, a functional administrator, and a support staff member. Together, you manage several core registries and collaborate with municipalities, other water boards, and chain partners.
Your Water Power
You act as the bridge between GEO and the wider organization. As the go-to person for colleagues at HHSK, you proactively identify information needs, spot opportunities, and translate questions into practical GEO solutions—such as dashboards, web applications, or mobile tools.
No two days are the same. One day you may be working in ArcGIS on data, maps, or a data model; the next, you discuss with colleagues what information they need for a new application. For example, you might develop a GEO application for the crisis organization, automate data processing with FME, or troubleshoot why a map isn’t displaying the correct information.
You go beyond the surface-level request: you investigate what data is available, how it’s used, and how information can be made smarter and clearer. This ensures data and GEO solutions are reliable and well-aligned with real-world practice. You also contribute to integrations with national and European systems, such as the Base Registries, the National Geo-Register, the Digital Environment Act (Digitaal Stelsel Omgevingswet), and INSPIRE.
Through your work, you directly support major societal challenges—including flood safety, climate adaptation, asset management, and water system management—while also having the space to grow and help shape the future of geospatial information at HHSK.
What Makes You the Right Fit?
You enjoy solving puzzles with GIS and data—but you don’t just want to sit behind your screen. You proactively engage with colleagues, listen carefully, and dig deeper to understand their needs. You translate their questions into practical geo-solutions and ensure the information is accurate, up-to-date, and usable.
If you see something that could be smarter or better, you take the initiative. You easily switch between technical and organizational perspectives, knowing when to act independently and when to first consult with colleagues.
You work precisely, think ahead, and have a good sense of humor. To succeed in this role, you bring:
A completed HBO or WO degree, e.g., in Geo-informatics, GIS, Spatial Development, Geography, or a related field;
Experience as a GIS specialist;
Knowledge of or affinity with 3D, LiDAR, and AI;
Experience with GIS software—preferably Esri products such as ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise;
Knowledge of geospatial data, data quality, and geographic analysis;
Affinity with automation and data processing, e.g., using FME, Python, or SQL;
Strong communication skills;
A proactive, meticulous, and collaborative work attitude.
